I don't always catch fish, but when I do, I prefer Dos Hybrids

Id rather have a Hobie than any motor boat on earth, but to each his own. An Outback and a single kayak trailer would still come out cheaper than a Pontoon. Upkeep would be minimal as well.

I had one for awhile. Like he said, the wind is a killer! Also, it was not any easier to load and unload than the Manta Ray 11 I have now. If I ever have another one, it will have a trolling motor and more storage.

I had one like that for a couple of years and like it until one pontoon got punctured.
I had issues with wind not when I was in open water, but when I was fishing close to structure or brush.

I ended up buying a couple of 11' x 12" aluminum pontoons that I was going to strap on like the inflatable ones but changed my mind and started to build a small "normal" pontoon boat. That was about the time I got my first Hobie and abandoned the project.

I am about to put the entire setup on Craigslist next week. I still have the inflatable frame and aluminum pontoons.

Before I got my kayak I looked at those and the float tubes. I looked at where I was fishing and where I would be able to fish if I was able to get on the water. If you just want on the water and not going to go far the float tube is your best bet. Super light and cheap. But for the money of the pontoon it was better IMO to go for the kayak. The weight is close and kayaks have dollies. Pontoons are big and bulky. They are slow and like every body said you're like a big sale getting blown all over. You'll be limited to ponds pretty much. In a kayak you can get out on open water and go a couple of miles in no time at all but they are just as at home on a pond. A S-10 with tailgate down will carry a 12 foot yak just fine. Get a dollie system or build one like I did and you can carry the yak and all your gear at one time to the water. We are bias here so post this on the float tube section too but most important think of what you are fishing for and where. With a kayak you are only limited by you.

I can buy this one for $200. Maybe I should get it and give it a try.

No but you'll probably not like a sit inside kayak as much as one you can sit on top of.

You have to remember, you get what you pay for. Cheaper is not always best. Smart thing to do is to DEMO a few kayaks just to see how you like it, be it a sit inside or sit on top. You're the only one who's really going to know your own comfort zone. If you still have doubts and are still interested in a one man pontoon, then do as sTODDh-The Turtle suggested and go to the Tube section and get their opinions. You will have to keep in mind that they're going to be just bias as well because they're tubers and one man pontoon users.

I too was considering a tube or one man pontoon when I wanted to get off the bank. I did a lot of research on the internet mainly looking for a the cheapest one I could find. I was about to pull the trigger and buy a one man pontoon, but then I got invited by Zombie to go kayak fishing (it was a sit on top kayak). I have never been on a boat before, much less on a kayak. I was little intimidated, but I just hop on and did my best to keep up with him & my brother. While trying to keep up, I was thinking if I was in a tube or one man pontoon I would not be able to keep up with them at all if I wasn't in a kayak. My shoulders were killing me afterwards, but that was from inexperience and having rotators cuff in both shoulders didn't help either. Even though I didn't want to spend too much on a kayak, I opted for the Hobie Outback. It was way more than what I wanted to spend, but it has been well worth the money thumb No regrets whatsoever.

If getting on and off a yak is a concern for you, you'll hate a sit inside yak. Stay sit on top. There are plenty of yaks for big guys now days (trust me, I'm 6'6" 250lbs) ranging from $900 and up. Do some research online for the following yaks:

Ocean Kayak Big Game

Diablo Paddlesport Adios

Jackson Coosa

KC Kayaks K12

The last 3 all have elevated seating positions, which will be helpful to you, especially if mobility is any issue. Plus they're all around 12 feet long, so hauling one in your S10 won't be an issue. Add a yak cart to them and you can get it to and from the water easily and without damage due to dragging.

Most importantly, test drive before you buy. 75% of the folks who come into our shop with a particular yak in mind actually leave with a different yak.

So everyone agrees that the yak in the picture I posted isn't worth the effort.

I think you will like a sit on top better, but can you take that sink out for a test drive?

When I recently sold my other kayak I let the gentleman take it out and see if he liked it first.
Don't get in to a rush!!! Take a couple kayaks out for a spin. It will be cheaper in the long run.

And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
