Shad color crank bait. Lipless or squarbill for swallow water. DD22 for deep water.

So far the votes are squed toward crakbaits and the Zoom Brush Hog .. I have to agree with the brush hog , they are cheap easy to use , if you rig them weedless you can cast them just about anywhere and they wont get snared .my favorite is the baby brush hog in watermelon/red I love to cast it up on shore or in weeds and give it a tug , that " Plop " when it hits the water seems to drive fish nuts .. I have never ever missed cathing somthing with this bait when all else fails . i say somthing cause Ive also caught big sunfish and once a confused catafish ..

[quote=Deputy Angler]if you are new to bass fishing i would suggest a shallow crankbait (buy two of them 1. in a natural shad color 2. fire tiger or chartruese with blue back), chartruese and whites spinner bait with willow leaf blades, weedless texas rigged plastics... use watermelon, pumpkin or blue/black colors, a gold rattle trap and a chrome rattle trap...
these lures will offer several different options and you can get everything I just mentioned for probably 40-50 bucks..

Texas rigged Watermelon worm, motor oil worm, and get a couple pencil poppers, and learn how to work them. Get a package of rage toads, and either fish them weightless, or with a weighted hook.
Thing about fishing Texas rigged plastics is a stiff rod. Flimsy rods don't do much good for the hook-set.
Your Mileage May Vary.
