I'm partial to the fly-rod. For that, give me a deer hair frog popper.
On conventional tackle, give me a shad colored crankbait. A DD-22 crankbait.

Tried several, but the one that seems to work most often for me is a 7" black Berkley Power worm

if you are new to bass fishing i would suggest a shallow crankbait (buy two of them 1. in a natural shad color 2. fire tiger or chartruese with blue back), chartruese and whites spinner bait with willow leaf blades, weedless texas rigged plastics... use watermelon, pumpkin or blue/black colors, a gold rattle trap and a chrome rattle trap...
these lures will offer several different options and you can get everything I just mentioned for probably 40-50 bucks..

i am wanting to try different lures does anybody have any suggestions You just opened a huge can for suggestions. Everyone here is going to have their preference based on their CONFIDENCE. You need to develop your confidence because what works for me may not work for you at all. I myself have confidence in the following soft plastics based on the following order: 1. Worm 2. Frog 3. Senko

i would agree that a crankbait would be a good bait to master. doesnt require quite as much feel as plastics, but still fun and effective to fish crankin...KVD 1.5 & 2.5s I have used a lot of Academy H2Os. they catch fish good for the price. I am not one to spend a ton of baits. So anything bargain bin or low to averaged priced baits are my go tos.

+1 for the carolina rigged SENKO... I throw it and catch fish from coast to coast on it. With saying that, I have total confidence in it and I always have one rigged. At the end of the day you will tend to catch fish with the lure you have the confidence in and have the "feel" of... No matter if it's a crankbait or a jig or a worm, become good with any one of them and you will catch fish with it no matter where your at or what time of year!
AdanV hit the nail on the head...CONFIDENCE
of course it tends to help a tad if you can become good with all of them!!! LoL
