Right. You don't need one of those ridiculous reels. You want a medium heavy action rod to learn on. You want a Shimano or Daiwa reel. The less you want it to weigh:The more you got to pay.

Ok thanks. I've been using my 7'3" Heavy Duckett w/ a Revo STX and so guess I will just stick with it. I need to get much better at it...I cannot get my lure to stay low to the water consistently.

I have 2.

7'3" Falcon Cara hvy, with a 7.1:1 Pflueger Patriarch w/ 30lb spiderwire stealth braid.

And

Same rod, with 6.4:1 Pflueger Trion III (best reel for $100 imo), w/ 20lb P-Line CXX premium

For the size fish that I catch, a BPS CarbonLite 6.4 reel and CarbonLite 6'-9" micro-guide stick does very well (short pitching). I use 30 lb braid, sometimes with 20 lb fluoro leader.
BUT, I would like to explore the use of a 1276 SLi Abumatic spincast reel, for long pitching.

Need to improve my LMB fishing, running out of time.

dobyns 765c paired with a curado...awesome combo! Might be more than you asked for but its definitely worth it. It has a soft tip yet it has enough backbone to horse the big ones out of cover
