I know I know the 6.2 puts out 403 hp and and a good bit of torque... but you know the new diesles have nearly 400 hp and almost 800 lbs of torque? I wouldnt be drag racin with mine but i bet it will still smoke you.

matt bold statement Have you driven one? They dont quit! It may not have the top end like the gasser does, but with 800 lbs of torque it doesnt need it, it just grabbs another gear and goes. Your talking about two vehicles that dont weigh that much different with the same hp for all practical purposes and the diesel has nealy twice(2 times) the torque. Its no guarantee, but at least I think the diesel has a fighting chance! matt

Well, I guess I'll stand corrected there Red Chevy - was just browsing the specs on the NEW diesels -and the specs are pretty impressive (397 hp, 765 ft-lbs.) Motor companies are doing some amazing things with these things nowadays. Do you have one of these new trucks red chevy? It would be interesting to run 'em off - and smoke me- well I guess you're right there too -as in all that black smoke blocking out the sun, LOL. Anyway, initial mileage with about 550 miles on it, around town, averages out to be 15.2. Which isn't that bad so far. I've only had the chance to pull the boat about 50 miles or so - round trip from Flint to Lake Tyler (where there was no room to park -tournament in full swing) so I went over to Palestine. That trip, a few stops & go's, it averaged 12.1 mpg. So far that's no different than my previous 5.3L truck -and this one isn't broke in yet. The BIG difference is the Allison IMHO. At 60-65mph it's turnin' about 2500 rpm's, and pulled everything in 5th gear with ease - no downshifts. Once on 155 South, was able to get it up to 70(+) and it pulled just fine in 6th. SO, am very happy with it so far. I didn't realize that this engine is an all aluminum L9H, and the sound - even with the stock muffler is real gutsy.

I have a 2010 dodge... and being that it is a 6-speed manual... no I dont care to race you! as I would get dusted. Sounds like a real nice truck, and I would have probably gotten something very similar, but I dont think I would handle the gooseneck too well at about 15K. I dont pull it that often, but you dont want to hitch onto it with a 1/2 ton. Oh and the diesels do not smoke any more unless you modify them from factory.
In all reality you are getting the same milleage that alot of diesle truck out there are getting and it will easily pull what you want to do with it. Good luck!

Faster doesn't translate into better when it comes to trucks.
My buddy's Tundra is faster than my truck but when it comes to hauling heavy loads mine pulls way out in front in every category. I didn't buy my truck to be fast. I bought it to haul my rv, boat and anything else that might need to tow. It's done a dang good job so far.

...I dont really know what to make of that. I dont have one either... mine is a 2010 dodge, rated quite a bit below the 2011's, and it isnt a GM anyhow. I said i bet it would beat you(in reference to the 2011 GM's not my truck) didnt make any guarantees, I have been wrong plenty of times, and any how once you figured out the numbers they put out you halfway agreed with me.
No I wont race you and no I dont own one, but I did drive one and it was impressive. Maybe they arnt dragsters, but for a truck they can move.

id be afraid to race a brand new truck, might blow a rod out the side or a trans. them techs can tell if you got on it, i found out once on a 04 colorado,5spd std. i took it in for a check engine light and they asked me if i raced it. i asked why do you ask, the tech said it has hit 99 on the speedo and redlined a few times. i guess the computers keep track of what the engine is doing kinda like a black box.

if your talking about doing 15k, on a gooseneck, any 3/4 ton vehicle should handle the load just fine. better with diesel.

Hey Revoman - geez I wish I had had time to REALLY try it out - have been at the Con Expo Construction Equipment show in Vegas since 3/14. Will be home SOON (I hope). Should be home just in time to make the first payment, then on the road again selling construction equip. Just as soon as I'm done with this "Run" will take some time to maybe go down to Rayburn. Gotta do the work - so I can keep that tank full, LOL. Be back soon.
