It's not how fast you get there! It's what you do when your there! I won yesterday an only cranked up mine to load an unload! But I can understand wanting to go faster but man 65 on the water is getting it!
When in doubt rip it out!!

There is one skeeter that will do this it was a 2000 17.6 with a 150 now you can only get this boat with 90 hp. I had one and called skeeter to get some info on boat, they told me I had what they called the rocket. This boat was made for the races they had after tournament at bass. This little boat kicked everyones [censored] running the course they had. My boat would jump on plane at half trim and no one could beat the hole shot. That's the boat I ZX180. It was fast, about 64 on gps. I blew the engine and put a 175 powerhead on it and got about 67 out of it. Rough riding sucker though!
Retirement best job ever.

I have a 2006 18.5ft SX190 with a Yamaha 150 VMax and I am pushing the RPM's to get to 60mph (no tournament load). I back off cause I get nervous seeing the RPM's up there like that. I would be happy with the speed you are getting now.

How the hell are you getting that much speed out of your 18ft boat? Is this on GPS or speedometer? I'll be the third to ask this question. I have an 18-1/2 foot Skeeter with a 150 VMax. When I first bought it and ran it I thought I was doing 65-66 mph. Then I got a GPS and that 65-66 turned into 59-60. Right now my boat will run right at 60 with a full load in it. And I wouldn't want to be in it if it was doing 75. My partner has a 22' Bullet with a 250 Pro XB on it. A couple of weeks ago on Lake Tyler we hit a big boat wake and went airborne...as in way airborne. I thought I had broken my right arm on the back of the seat when we came down. Actually when we were launching into the air the thought of a lot worse than a broken arm briefly flashed through my mind.

and im guessing you havnt ever raced any of your buddies while on the lake or anything either... no.. In fact I can't even tell you the last time I had my boat pegged.. When you know your boat is slow, what is the point of opening it up! Right now though, I would race anybody in a trolling motor competition, mine is a beast and all I have since my powerhead is blown!

Add airscoop to Engine Cowling, or open plenum to front grill if so available. Some cowlings have a front grill.
Install the carbs and reeds from 175 hp ;( if they are larger ) or 200 hp. You get the point.
Drill 2ea. 1 inch holes into exhaust about i inch above water line.
Install 10 inch jackplate; Set prop center at 3.25 inches below pad.
Go to 2 inch higher pitch prop, .... Buy high octane gas at North Star Dragway, or one near you !
Carry one rod and 2 light weight balsa wood crankbaits,.....then,...update insurance ( boat and life )Then,.....
Trim it High and Let it Fly ! ! !.........chinewalker.

I run a ZX 180 as well and if your talking GPS speeds thats as good as you can expect on that boat and trying to modify won't gain you anything much worth the money you spend. Best way to pick up speed is to work the prop, drop weight in the boat and play with the jackplate heights. I have messed only with motor heights and can run by myself with a loaded boat 62-64 gps and thats pretty dang good for that boat. If you want to hit 70+ then the only thing to do is buy a bigger boat with more HP.

My 2nd boat was a ZX185 (18'6) with a 150 VMax and I was amazed when approaching 70 mph with my factory speedo. Even commented to the dealer about it and he said "Yep, they're fast" (he subsequently went out of business). However, a handheld GPS gave me a reality check when the best I could do with a tourny load was around 62. I even put a Detwiler Hydrojack on it so I could dial it in and find her sweet spot. Think I hit 63 with a darn near empty boat, low fuel, strong tailwind, and cool air temps. Like has been said, if you want to go faster, get a bigger boat/engine. Your 150 is performing as well as it's designed to.

Yes the motor is completely stock and factory prop on my boat and 65 fully loaded is about normal for a skeeter zx 180 with a 150 I know a few other guys runnin the same boat and same speeds.... kinda wish someone has had exsperiences with boreing their motor out some ? Other than that guess ill be loosing the dual console , anchor, and a few other nick nacks. And for all those wanderin why we want to go faster well there is just no better feeling of being out in frnt in the shotgun start syle tournaments Bottom line, that's not the boat/motor that will put and keep you in front of most tournament anglers.

These boats are so light one time I was out running a 200hp to my hole, we hit a little wave and 30 mile gust of wind hit. It stood that boat up, it could have fell forwards or backwards. The boat behind us said he could see under the motor,my partner dam near went out of the boat. You feel the need for speed that bad get bigger boat I did or get good life insurance.
