3 or 4 rods out of the thousands they've sold recently?

Any rod company will lose some percentage right off the shelf.

The question is what they do next.

Talked to the guy at the return desk and he stated that they had a lot of returns on the Falcon rods.. Maybe as you stated but i changed rod brands and they where awsome about the returns

Sounds like it is time to switch rod brands to me Im not much of a high dollar rod fan myself and have been doing some research lately and it looks to me like the proangler prob has the highest customer satisfaction rate for the dollar and priced far less then alot of very over priced rod manufacturers out there.

I have at least 10 Falcon rods all of them are Lowriders or Cara rods and have used them for over 10 years and have never broken one. I would not hesitate to buy another one even though my last 2 rod purchases were Loomis, which by the way I have broken several Loomis rods but they are so good with their replacement that I will continue to do business with them. Now if I could just find a tire manufacturer that would give me a free set after my other ones wore out.

Their replacement policy is the exact reason I shop at Academy. They know how to treat a customer, so he'll keep coming back.....and it's been working for me. I cant go in there without spending $150.

I would be curious to know if the Falcons being exchanged were the "HD" models. The HD's are made off shore, China I believe. Could be mistaken about the country but, not USA made accoding to my info.

At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

I'd contacted Pelican (in Canada) and they told me to go about it the way I did. Academy said talk to the hand. Pelican told me to tell the store manager to get a replacement via the distributor when I contacted Pelican by phone after I got this email and Academy again told me they couldn't do anything. This was all after Academy telling me they would exchange the kayak and I didn't even have to exchange it for the same kayak.

Copy of the email from Pelican (pics of the kayak were sent in the first email):

Good afternoon

Thank you for contacting us in this regard.
Unfortunately, we don't have any kits to repair the products. However, we do have a site which has a repair kit that might be of interest for yourself.

If you wish to get a credit or refund, you would have to contact the store where you purchased yur kayak to see if they would take it back.

If any further assistance is required, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Have a nice day.

Sounds to me like it was Pelican that was at fault not Academy. Pelican did not have a repair kit for whatever you did to it, did not honor any warranty, did not offer to give you your money back and told you to contact the store to "to see if they would take it back" while knowing full well that they would not.

How is any of that Academy's fault? That was just Pelican trying to pass the buck not really telling you to go back to Academy.

In Oklahoma all boat sales at Academy include doing the state registration paperwork. It's no different than any other boat purchase at a dealer, etc. I can see them having a no-return policy if it involved dealing with the state tax commission, etc. Academy has to follow state law involving boat sales. Probably the same in Texas. Pelican directed the issue to their distributor who probably isn't Academy, but is where Academy gets their boats.

I browse a lot but usually end up spending my money @ Academy because of their unbelieveable return policy. I am sure they get ripped off a lot of the time but I appreciate that they don't treat me like a criminal when I have a problem to resolve.
