I'd fix it if I thought I could without messing up the poll. Sounds like a mighty stiff, inflexible fishing poll.

Explain: I'm not a purist. I'm an opportunist.
When in Montgomery, I'm a Redneck with a fly pole after bass.
When I'm traveling in Colorado/ Wyoming/ Montana, I'm a trout fishing fool. Though I do enjoy the occasional pike.
When I'm at the beach, I'm an absolute newbie after trout and reds.
Here in China, I'm just practicing my casting, though I did catch a 12-15lb common carp on a streamer last summer (fluke, I think), and I'm learning to fish for snakeheads.
In common at all places: The first fly out of my box is a rabbit hair zonker. I do better on nymphs in Colorado, but only after I have disappointed the zonker.

Redneck. As a child, we used fly rods as glorified cane poles to dangle crickets over bream beds.
Oh yeah, we used cork "indicators" on the "tippett."

I would say Im a trophy fisherman. I know in some ways that can sound pretentious. I enjoy chasing fish that challenge me as an angler. I enjoy catching fish as much as the next guy and have some great memories of catching high numbers of fish with my buddies. But more times then not I find myself bored catching stocker trout and sand bass the size of my hand. Its fun for a dozen or so fish but I like fish that challenge my ideas, theories and skills as an angler. I like to chase the fish of the river so to speak. When Im tying flies, putting together gear or just day dreaming it about that fish and not so much about how can I go catch a hundred skinny stripers. Trophy fish to me are quality specimens of that species; 1 lb bluegill to 150 lb tarpon and everything in between.

To a degree, all of the above. I have never really thought of myself as belonging to any particular category. More to the point I have always felt that I was not in any category other than a guy having fun with this stuff. So I guess that's me, trying to have fun.

Please explain: Creek connoisseur and drainage ditch adventurer Les Why Les, that would be you, me and about everyone here on TFF. We are the high end fly magazines' worst nightmare! No one wants to run ads next to an article about guys stomping through a creek, tossing Briminators at greenies

I fish for big fish or whatever bites, in places that lifes journey takes me. I have caught fish in the Angelina and Neches Rivers before Lake Sam Rayburn was impounded, as well as the Green River when Flaming Gorge was a gorge and not a reservoir. Fished most major reservoirs and many streams between the Gulf of Mexico and Alaskan base camp streams accessible by helicopter and being paid for the adventure.
I fished many estuaries and bays on the Texas and Louisiana coast and offshore waters as well - my career took me to many interesting places. Since retirement, Lake Texoma became my home lake, and now with old bones and health issues, I enjoy fishing my ponds for trophy copper nose blue gill and hybrid striped bass. I continue to call myself a Texas Redneck fly fisherman.

Adventurist, opportunist, Trout purist, carp stalker, bream buster, crappie catcher, bass bomber, gar getter, striper striker,...
If they're out there, I want to get 'em, and then return them so the next guy can try his luck...
And, btw, Robin, that may be just a little more than I wanted to know...

Please explain: Creek connoisseur and drainage ditch adventurer Les Why Les, that would be you, me and about everyone here on TFF. We are the high end fly magazines' worst nightmare! No one wants to run ads next to an article about guys stomping through a creek, tossing Briminators at greenies I think the marketing folks call that an untapped market, Robin. That's a gonzo fly fishing film and a small fortune just waiting to get made. The big question is, do you go all rock and roll with high angle shots of guys jumping into creeks and loud guitar solos while you dramatize someone landing a mean greenie on a -3wt or do you go more for the silence and solitude route with lots of golf-volume voiceovers about how it isn't just about the fish and a quiet bluegrass soundtrack? I've got the answer. We make them both and market them accordingly. I don't know if you people realize just how lucky you are to have someone of my caliber of creative genius around to give you these million dollar ideas.
