I really don't think this board is the reason for the increased fishing. It's the fact that the I35 from SA to Austin is exploding and it's an easy lake to access. This board probably accounts for 1-2more boats out there a wk

i think the board accounts for several, but 5+ years ago we would have been the only boat on the water on a day like yest. also the last traffic light on fm 725 was at county line road. new braunfels has grown drastically in the last few years.

5 yrs ago? Last year at this time I would see maybe 1 or 2 other fishing boats in that weather. I pass by the I-35 ramp everyday, and there is always trailers in the lot. No doubt New Braunfels has grown dramatically, but I doubt everyone that has moved here owns a boat and likes to fish because that is about what it would have to take with the amount of boats always on this tiny lake now days. The increased pressure is no doubt due to all the quality reports seen on here with the help of word of mouth. We reap what we sew I guess.

There actually was a tournament yesterday on the lake. Nonetheless, I thought this board was here to help people and put the word out about "Good Fishing." Not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I'm sure a lot things can attribute to increased traffic on any lake. One being a bigger follwing/interest in fishing.

I for one, did first hear about Dunlap on TFF, and I'm thankful for it. Due to it's proximity to San Antonio, my Son and I can afford to go fishing every weekend (sometimes both days) instead of every other weekend. Since I trust everyone on the TFF sees taking your Son fishing as a positive, I would encourage others to also look at it from that perspective. Since I've only lived here for 2 years I don't have the past to draw on, but I have no doubt that having that lake all to yourself years ago was nice...it can get little crowded. Nonetheless, I wouldn't trade 100 days on that or any lake by myself over just one day fishing with my Son.
So...is it really "a shame?" Did people like me and my Son really "ruin" it for others by following a lead we found last spring on a thread that started similar to this one? If that's really your take, then somewhere along the way you've lost sight of what the TFF is all about.

I was out there today as well. Looks like the word is out on this lake. What a shame, I'm glad I got to enjoy it before all the bragging on this board ruined it. I had to park up near the access road under the I-35 ramp. No tourney today but there were at least 30 trailers there. Over the last few years there might have been 1 or 2 this time of year, on a Sunday and espcially with this weather.
Anyway, fishing was slow. Caught a few dinks and saw several boats (since I was around some all day) also catch a few small fish.
PS don't bother going out there next Saturday. Talked to some guys that were pre fishing for a tourney there next weekend. There will be at least 2 next Saturday. Just wait, people who are hearing everything on this lake have no clue what they are getting into. This and McQueeney I consider my home lakes, and if they think they can just go out there and catch fish easily they have something coming for them. This is not a weekend warrior lake. It has taken me along time to be able to go out there everyday and not get skunked. This goes back to the days of the hydrilla when anybody could go out there and get a 10lber. Now it aint so easy. Some days you really have to work at this lake to find the fish. People on here read the reports and just think they will go do the same as somebody who has been fishing it for a while. Let them go out there 4 or 5 times in a row and get skunked, and see if they ever want to come back. Kind of like how I am with Canyon. I cant catch anything over 12 inches there, so I only go there to relax, not fish. This lake is not as good as people make it out to be. The whole greater San Antonio and Austin area is growing so much that there is going to be no room on this lake for anything in a few years. Especially once summer hits. HAHA, they dont know about that. While on the crowding subject, all somebody has to do is make a ramp on Mcqueeney and that will take half the boat traffic off of Dunlap!! IMO!!

gbra put out a survey maybe a year ago. they sent me one and most of the questions they asked were about traffic on the river lakes. i think it also tried to estimate soil erosion. i don't know how they could do it, but at some point they are probably gonna put a limit on the lakes. i know everyone here prob has a story about a drunk skier that they almost came to blows with. more than once i have been almost run over while fishing 10 ft off the bank.
i would much rather share it with a bunch of fisherman in the winter than everyone else during the summer. and your right fishinbuds, i can load my daughter up after work and be fishing in 15 min. it doesn't get much better than that.
i know dunlap has some big fish in it, but they can be hard to catch. its easy to get skunked hittin boat docks and lily pads, and if you don't know the contour of the lake that's all you can see and it looks good.

my son and I have been on Dunlap no less than 20 times since we moved here 2 years ago, and our best day was 13 fish (none over 3 lbs). our largest catch...ever...was only 3.5-4 lbs. so you guys are right on the money...it is an EXTREMELY tough place to claim consistent success on. I envy those that know the lake better than I. despite our many disappointing days...we keep coming back for more...and will continue hopefully for years to come.

i heard about Dunlap from TTF about a year ago..... Dunlap has been my "home" lake ever since (i'm a college student in San Marcos) i have NO complaints about anyone out on the lake fishing... if a boat is in one of my spots..... oh well... i move to a diff one... that little lake is GREAT.... you just gotta put in the time. my only real complaint is the drunk water flys (wave runners) you will not find my happy [censored] out on Dunlap during the summer or a weekend. I only fish on week days and have never had any issuses with fellow fisherman on Dunlap

Dunlap is a great lake!!! My buddy and I have caught so many good fish out of that place, its all about putting in the time to learn the lake!! For the most part everyone fishes the most obvious stuff boat docks, lil pads, and stumps dont get me wrong from time to time u can load the boat at certain times of the yr in those locations but its not the ticket to fishing dunlap.... Good fishing!!
