Looking to get started kayak fishing, have never done it before. Any advice yall could give me on what kind of Kayak to get would be appreciated. My plan is to fly fish from the kayak in both fresh and salt water. On a pretty tight budget...appreciate any help yall can offer.

You will hear it a dozen different ways, but paddle before you buy. You can get demos from most dealers and make local gathering from places like this site or TKF.
Don't try to buy the perfect yak the first time. Buying used you can recover most if not all your original investment as you discover more about your personal preferences. Just get something that at least sounds like a fit for your needs and get started.

Welcome to the addiction.

IMO, carver hit the nail on the head with his post. youll also have to concider your weight compared to kayak weight limit and how much speed, tracking & maneuverability is important to you.

typically the wider the yak the less overall performance youll get with it. some folks just make it look easy. reading this aught to help you further. think all yaks mention in it are more suited for standing and casting. fyi, they are more $!

Wow! I had no idea Kayaks were that pricey...was really hoping that I could get started for a few hundred. Might have to look into converting the igloo!

I got a heck of a deal by doing a trade with a guy on Craigslist. I scored a Heritage Osprey in a trade that cost me $80.00 (what the Dewalt planer I traded cost me). I miss the planer but man that kayak is fun.Good luck.

Any interest in selling that Osprey for a quick profit?

Keep checking the Craigslist ads like I did. It took a few days but as soon as that guy posted his ad I was on it. People are always looking to upgrade from the kayak they have to the latest model, I am happy with this one. It took me to some very fat female Sandbass up by Vance's camp yesterday. Was looking for crappie but those big sandies were a very nice substitute.
There is a classified section at Texaskayakfisherman.com
with lots of yaks for sale. I'v only been out 3 times in mine but I can see that I'll be catching many more fish than I ever did from the bank. Good luck partner.
