You are safe to run directly under the middle of the powerlines only.

Many power line poles have cross members between them and are concrete. Real lower unit and transom killers.

I had to pick up three guys out of the water on Big Sam a few years ago who had thought they could run beneath the power lines. Motor hit the cross member and cleaned the transom completely off of the boat.

They wanted me to tow their trashed boat back to Jackson Hill, but only agreed to take them back.

Well Welsh is about 2&1/2 feet low this year, so some stumps that are usually underwater are exposed. Tied off to one a couple of weeks ago midday to take a break for awhile. It felt like concrete to the touch.

If the hot water made them softer wouldn't they have all rotted away by now? Both lakes have been there for a long time.

I heard the stumps out there were hard and it's true they are pretty solid. I noticed that when I went out there a few weeks ago. Still you need some pretty good movement to get a hole

When leaving RR bridge, you had better know what you're doing if you plan to stay on pad coming out from underneath the power lines. There is a widow maker there if you cut the right too sharp. I believe closer to the bank is alright, but not for sure. I usually shut down at the end of the power lines, idle for 80yrds or so, and then get back on pad when I'm even with the point.

**Edit reread and sounds like they were just in front of railroad bridge. Some big stumps there too. Better to wait until the point to run unless you know what you are doing.

the boat was in the pocket side of the RR bridge, NOT the main lake side. Feel really sorry for the owner and I can't even imagine how to get it off of that stump! It's about 30yds into the pocket right in the middle, bilge was running wide open when we left out of there, hope they can recover it soon.

I was one of the guys that help this poor guy and his son out. I tried to pull his boat off the stump with mine. He was really wedged on it . I thik it possaby stuck through the hull. I watched the guy come in he was just ideling in very slow . Just hit the stump just right I guess. Another friend took him back to the ramp with his tackle and Son.

Felt really bad for him. We were glad we could help just wish we could have done more. At the end of the day he and his son were safe and that is what maters. Our prayers are with him.

Merry Christmas to all.

I was in that red and white skeeter back by the lilly pads. I think we passed you working our way out of the creek. I think my buddy commented on how nice your boat was when yall passed us?

Still there. Sitting pretty low in the water which means the stump is going further into the hole. I dont know how you could get it off. Hope he had insurance. Frek accident. I IDLE all over the upper lake with the motor trimmed up and rock over stumps EVERY time. Just a bad coincidence of hitting one just right and a weak hull.
