Throwing your castnet at a city park pond is illegal. I wouldn't do it, but if I did I wouldn't post about it for sure. Just FYI...

It's only illegal if you get caught. hide2

Seriously though. The parks around here have signs posted that it's illegal.

name wars for perch/blue gill/sunfish/brim/bream pop up often on fishing forums

I'd just like to point out that the only 'official' and unique names are the latin ones and they exist to get past the fact that local names are inconsistant.

but unless you are a scientist or you are trying to communicate with someone far away the local names are perfectly reasonable to use (IMHO)

brim/bream is a great example of how different the fish can be and share this common name! A bream can be a huge carp like fish, a little sunfish or a saltwater fish.

I catch my bream using Berkeley pink crappie bites on a cricket hook.

It only list 14 lakes under the neighborhood section.

For channel and blue catfish, no minimum length. Daily bag=5 in any combination.
Fishing is by pole and line only. Anglers may use no more than two poles while fishing.

You can believe what you want but what you believe won't stop the GW from issuing you a fat ticket.

After some more reading on several different sections of the hand book yes I agree with you on your point but they throw that 75 acre limit in there.

It appears if the lake is over 75 acres they are not considered community fishing lakes and I can use a net for non-game fish right? My local lakes are over 75 acres and are not in State parks. There are a couple totally inside City Parks but the lakes themselves are over 75 acres. Which appears to be outside the community lake definiton even though they are in a City Park. All I am saying is it looks like there may be some lakes or ponds inside City Parks that fall outside of the scope of this regulation if they are over 75 acres. Then again they may not. Like I said I will do some more research to get the answers to my questions I have.

75 acres is really big for a community pond. most of the ones here in DFW area are like an acre or two , if that! i don't know many tanks that cover 75 acres.

75 acre limit seems to be the key after my conversation with the State if it is over that and not with-in a State Park your good but otherwise no net. Just like a few here said. Thanks for the heads ups might have saved me a ticket in the future.

If it is over 75 acres you are good. Lake Arlington for example is a city lake but over the size limit for those regs. However, do what I always do, when in doubt ask the man who would be otherwise writing you the ticket. They don't mind giving a clarification on hunting and fishing regulations. In fact all that I've ever talked to where more than happy that I would take the time and interest to find out rather than just begging ignorance when I got caught.
