Wow some of you other fly-tying hillbillies like real jazz, too? We have more in common than we thought.

I never knew tying went so well with whiskey. I might have to get into this....

Umm . . . you don't have to since you could wind up being a penniless alcoholic with a cirrhosis-trashed liver. (And then there are the bad possibilities.)

For the record, I'm as likely when tying to drink black coffee or green tea as red wine or amber whisky.

I have had the Russel's Reserve, found it a tad bit rough. Will have to try the rye version though.

My next 100% rye endeavor is old portero. Just need to track it down.

And if you want rough try Old Overholt!!

I always thought that bourbon could only be made in Kentucky. Oh well, not the first time I've been wrong.

Many St Patty's days ago it was rather cold, One place was packed, and the 2nd only had one shot of the other color of Irish whiskey.

Guy Clark influenced me to taste a few bottles of One W (I W if you prefer) Harper.

Thank SC for this thread. Now my flask has Bourbon rather than too sweet German schnapps. I may have grown up by a few years. smile

Right now I am enjoying Canadian Club cuz that fits my budget. I love it in my coffee. Someday I might try some of that high dollar stuff just to see how different it is.

Absolutely my pleasure! Maybe someday it'll stack up to Kelkay's tying thread. Doubt it but atleast we can keep one another abreast of the latest greatest libations out there.

I think the most notable difference is the smoothness of the higher dollar stuff. Not so hot tasting and some more complex flavors. That's if your drinking straight or cut with water. If you're mixin' then the difference is lost and the less expensive stuff is the way to go! Though there are some good tasting inexpensive bottles of goodness out there.

Thanks for that tip. Makes sense that does.

I enjoy it in moderation, like all good things (except fly fishing!!!!)

High test Wild Turkey is goodness. Perhaps the cats will get me a bottle of Rare Breed for my birthday.

the ultimate in bourbon is probably "Bookers" (named for Booker Noe the Master Distiller Emeritus at Jim Beam) it is aged 7 years & varies from 120 - 127 proof, hot and smooth, if you drink it with anything but a little water or ice you are wasting it.
