I do feel bad for the shops, guides and town of zapata. I am looking forward to my next trip back down to Falcon but I'll do the same as last time and stay in the U.S. I don't have any rights in Mexico therefore I don't go smile and the fishing is just as good on the U.S. side!

My thoughts exactly! If you just mind your own business and are there to fish, nobody will bother you! This is going to be blown way out of porportion just like the pirate thing! Like stated above, people are killed in the line of criminal activities every day, all over the world.

However, there is one thing that I would like to see happen out at Falcon. I would like to see more Border Patrol/Game Wardens/Authorities out on the lake to deter this sort of thing from happening. I hardley ever see any type of law enforcement out there and that bothers me a little bit, especially with all of the bad publicity. You would think the place would be crawling with em.

I am afraid that yoo many people are going to start carrying guns out there and that one of these days a civilian fisherman is going to get hurt because of it!

Im all for conceled carry, however, I dont think it is very smart to carry out there thinking that you are going to fight off pirates or drug dealers. The last time I checked, a .40 cal pistol isnt a match for 5 0r 6 automatic rifles. Unless you are John Rambo. All it is going to do is make things worse for you if you ever do have a run in with somebody out there. Trust me, you want to look as un threathening as possible so that nobody gets an itchy trigger finger.

Me and my dad carry our pistols with us everywhere too, but we dont take them on the boat for this reason.

I wonder why Sigi ( The Zapata Sheriff ) hasn't said anything other than it was tourists that were shot?

In December 1989, the US invaded Panama (I was stationed there for 4 years) because a US Navy sailor and his wife were beaten by Panamanian Police. Obviously there were issues with Noriega, but that beating was the final straw. If our government does not grow a set of eggs, and continue to let it's citizens be killed, beaten, kidnapped, etc. with no recourse, then this type of thing will continue all over the world. The entire community of Zapata and other border towns as well suffer when these things happen. Fly a few cobras over the lake every couple of hours and see how many banditos show up.

This is really sad, could you imagine your wife seeing this happen to you?

I also took pictures of the same church....

I saw a guy on a jet ski this past Tues. coming from the Mexican side of the river towards the County ramp. He was doing crazy 8's in the water and didn't slow down or he didn't see me as we were on a collision course close to the the ramp.

Another question that comes to mind is why the GW would not go look for him after dark? Are they scared? Just curious, because when someone drowns around here they look ALL night!

Just in case, here is a brief article about the constitutional powers of a State to protect themselves without having to rely on a Federal Government that won't. This article was about Arizona BUT it could also apply to Texas.

In a related development, another explosive discovery was made by
those who actually take the Constitution seriously. The Constitution
specifically allows an individual state to wage war against a
neighboring country in the event of an invasion, should there be a
dangerous delay or inaction on the part of the federal government.

From Article I, Section 10 of the U.S. Constitution, we find these
words: "No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, engage in
War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not
admit of delay."

No one who is actually familiar with the crisis at the southern border
can deny that Arizona is endangered by the relentless assault of
lawless Mexican invaders who ignore our laws, inundate our schools and
medical facilities with unpaid bills, and even endanger the very lives
of citizens with criminal drug cartels that engage in kidnapping,
murder, human trafficking, and other mayhem, including aiming missile
and grenade launchers directly at U.S. border cities from just across
the Mexican border. This is every bit as much of an invasion as the
nation of Iran sending in a fleet of warships to the Port of
Charleston.
The Constitution that forms the basis of the rule of law in this
country says that Arizona has legal right to protect itself in the
case of inaction or delay on the part of the federal government,
including waging war in its self-defense.

If your trying to determine if someone is a drug dealer or user by the way he looks you might be correct 50% of the time. Also there are plenty of people that have jobs and careers and still have their hand in the drug ring. I'm not saying he is or isn't but just be aware of how we make assumptions.
