Lake Athens is seeing quite a bit of schooling action as well! They are a little finicky to get to bite though!

I caught em schooling on Gilmer 3 weeks ago and hit em with a redeye shad. Let it sink through the school and got some nice 3s and 4s.

The best thing is a chrome castmaster spoon. You can cast it a mile and it sinks fast to get past the dinks.

On powerplant lakes like Fayette the schooling can be incredible -- and not just little schoolies.
i wonder why this is so....we used to wear them out on Martin Creek under the train track.....schooling non-stop all day long.......

I really think its all around during this time of the year..fishing are getting hungry and might start begin to get ready for the fall. It might just be a colder fall/winter then before and they sense it coming!!

When I was in high school, I had an old man who taught math draw a picture of schooling bass on his black board (one of the best algebra classes we had)... he drew a picture that looked something like a tornado.... the shad were in the center of the cone, and bass were swirling around the outside all the way from the top to the bottom of the cone. It was his theory that the smaller bass were near the surface on the outside of the school and that the larger bass formed the bottom of the tornado cone (a relatively short cone).... He basically said that the larger fish stayed near the bottom of the cone and that they ate some of the shad that were knocked out by the other bass and fell through the school... I believe this is generally true and it is also true when white bass and strippers are feeding on schooling shad.. the strippers will be near the bottom of the school... This of course only applies to deep water schooling... not shallow shoreline flats or points.

weighted flukes (white/pearl), let it sink and they usually hit it on the way down, or keep it on top and let the fish chase it +1

We tried everything at Fork and couldn't get the schoolers to hit. Wasn't holding my mouth right.
