The Atlanta area is pretty nice. Mainly rural with a "main street" kind of town center. Wright Patman is 15 minutes away (It's making a big come-back soon). One hour from Millwood in Arkansas. An hourish from Lake O The Pines, Bob Sandlin. Couple hours from Rayburn and upper end of Toledo. Thirty minutes from Texarkana (which has tons of good food, academy, gander mountain, the landing tackle shop). Forty-five minutes from Shreveport - (academy, bass pro, gambling, boat shows, lots of cool events at the century-tel center). + 1 I live outside of Atlanta and love this area.
It's very quiet, good schools, good folks, few thousand population. Not a real need for a big police force if you know what I mean.

Longview (area)...we have a dozen lakes within a 30min-1hr drive. So many options, so little time! +1. I grew up in Kilgore and still have family there. I sure do miss fishing in East Texas.

Lindale, easy drive to Tyler for all the stores, but quiet, GREAT schools, nice country living. We love it here and will never move to another town.

I like Flint!!! Peace & quiet, friendly people, new sub divisions of affordable houses, 2 hours from Rayburn, 2.5 hours from Toledo Bend, 1 hour to Fork, right next to Palestine, 10 miniutes to Lake Tyler, etc. Just south of Tyler so all the amenities are very close. As a matter of fact DON'T move here -is nice just like it is -----

Lindale, easy drive to Tyler for all the stores, but quiet, GREAT schools, nice country living. We love it here and will never move to another town. thought i would add some more. Lindale is still very small. excellent christian based school system. advantages? small town living, nice folks, and a country setting. hmmmm, what am i missing? OH YEAH. lets see, not far to FORK (about 45 mins depending where you go) about an hour to dallas (more lakes and huge city), PALESTINE, GILMER, PINES, HOLBROOK (25-30mins), TYLER, TYLER STATE PARK (in your backyard with a 14+ coming out this last year), MARTIN CREEK, BRANDY BRANCH, not too bad to SANDLIN, RAYBURN, T-WOK. there is some fishing to be had in this area. personally, i wish noone else would come into town, but you wont be turned away. we have a Wal-Mart (who doesnt) and a Lowes. two major restaraunts. nevermind....this is definitely not the place to be.....

Sabine County is beautiful, peaceful and we love it here. We don't have all the amenities of a city (in fact we don't even have a single 4-way traffic light!), but Center, Jasper and Lufkin are close enough as long as there's not a shop-a-holic in the family. Taxes are low and interior property is reasonable. Fishing is great. Lots of historic stuff close by. Things run at a much slower pace here, so if you like that lifestyle it's great. Can't add much to this. I live outside of Woodville but would like to be closer to Rayburn. I think Jasper is an excellent option for everything except in depth healthcare needs.
Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

Thanks everybody for the in put, sabine county sounds like our kind of place, the Wife and I sold our dream home 10 years ago to move to Texas , it sat in the middle of 80 acres of tall timber and was 13 miles to the nearest country store , so we definitely like it rural , our boys are all grownup so it's our time now , would love to find a little quite place on a lake if it was good country folks around , but just a little cabin in the woods close to a good lake would be great if it's surrounded by good folks

Flint or Bullard. Close enough to Tyler so you have everything you need, including some of the best health care in the country. I have lived all over the country and just love it hear in Flint. I am here at least 5 more years, hopefully a lot more. I can be on Lake Tyler or Palestine in 10 minutes. Less than 2 hours from Fork, Tawakoni, and Fairfield.
