that would suck if you could not network the hds and 28 together. the guy at BP said you could, but i really do not know.

I have an HDS 10 and HDS 7 with structure scan networked together. They've been flawless. I had my old -520c networked before I got the -7. All I had to do was plug and play when I put the -7 on so I'm sure that the -28 would work well with it too.

I have an two HDS 8's and a HDS 7 with structure scan / downscan .....AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also I think the only "networking" you can do with the LCX 28 and the HDS units is the GPS sharing. Could be wrong though!

I have an HDS7 and 8. Both broke within the warranty period and were replaced. The 7 froze up in the first rain I was out in / the 8 had a software glitch. Still good units for the money.

My HDS 7 went out (water in the unit from rain) in less than a year. Lowrance replaced it and no problems with the new unit. I actually think the display on this unit is better than my old one. I was never too impressed with the old one. Lots of clutter on the screen. Not so with this one.

You are correct Jay, I did it with my old boat HDS 5 interlinked with a 520c. Worked like a champ. It did require the cable and 12v power supply.

You are correct, they cannot be linked together like two HDS models can. The old 'linking' of two Lowrance units was done with the NMEA 2000 standard as were most units.

The new linking via Lowrance is via the LSS1 structure scan module and ethernet cables.

Humminbird is done via the Interlink box. The new methods allow you to share waypoints and transducers.

The old NMEA 2000 connections were for GPS (which you should be able to share between the LX and the HD via the NMEA), and things like temp guages, fuel flow sensors and other things typically found in offshore rigs.

So you can connect the units to share the GPS puck, but that's about it. It will not allow you to share the waypoints however, that takes the LSS1 module.

Bought my HDS last fall and I'm now on my 4th unit.. failures were out-of-box with unrelated different problems....like water leakage, keyboard input issues and a can't ever power off problem. Luckily HDS's now have a two year warrenty and I still time to try to get one that will work.

Had picked HDS series because of its' better network capabilities but until I can get one HDS to work, not ready yet to try to find two HDS units that can both not fail and then be able to network together.
