i hate to beat a dead horse, but i am looking to buy one soon and i hear alot of neg feed back. my boat is already rig with lowrance and i have a lcx 28. so i want to link the 28 and hds together. I would appreciate any feedback from any that has one or knows anyone that does. It is a lot of money for me to spend on something that has problems.

I have a HDS 8 with the structure scan and a HDS 5. No problems at all. Plan on going to the HDS 10, when I can come up with the money.

I have a HB 797 and a HDS-7 -- The HDS is by far better. That said, part of the problem with the HB is the small screen and maybe with the larger screen models my opinion would change.
The HDS 7 works great but I do think the larger screen on the 8s and 10s would be better. And the ability to bring-up 3 screens would be great -- the 7 can only bring-up 2. The down scan, 2d sonar, and GPS would be really nice to see at the same time.

I love my 7, only problems I have had is with the map updating slowly sometimes, and the faceplate is a little loose.

I have a 5, 8, and 10 with downscan. Absolutely no problems with lowrance in the last 15 years!

I have the HDS-5 and HDS-7 with LSS-1(Structure/down Scan) and think they are great. I plan on uying the HDS-8 or HDS-10 and move the HDS-7 up front. I have not had one single problem, mine are networked via the ethernet. I have also ran the nmea cables for future addons.
Last year, I fished in the rain for our first four or five tournaments and just a few weeks ago in the pouring rain. No problems.
I agree with Bill W. the face plate seems a little loose.

I had an hds-7 on my boat for one fishing trip.. It rained and the unit froze up. Took two weeks to get it replaced, personally handled by Linda the week before she left.
I now have a humminbird 1197 that I really enjoy. No issues with the unit at all.

I have an hds5 and found with the smaller screen it's better to just run the structure by itself. Oher than that it's pretty cool. I ound a coleman canoe on the bottom in 50'. No I didn't attempt to retrieve it.
I am going to buy one just to find out for myself. Half y'all lie like hell and the other half are full of chit. www.anglersprotackle.com/store, A great locally owned business www.bcfw.org Bass Club of Fort Worth
