That is a monster fish.
I'm sorry, but if it comes down to the fish dieing or getting it certified, I'm letting the fish go. I would love to have a record like that but I would much rather have the fish alive and back in its habitat. +1 wonder how many egg's that fish put out every year ? and yes gary you are correct i too would like to have to make that call

That is one amazing catch! I agree. Sucks that it died, but he did catch it and had the final say in what happened. To be in the books, papers, and everyone talking about it Be nice to have that problem! That is the catch of a lifetime. Congrats to the lucky angler

Who has a livewell big enough for that fish?? It would have to be 6' x 2' x 2' to fit that monster.

I think i would agree with some of you folks. I would much rather see this fish live than my name in a record book. But congrats to the guy. If he wanted to keep it, then i have absolutely no problem with that. Just imagine how much those big fillets were embedded with fat and nasty red meat. And i wonder how a big fish like that would taste?
Truly of fish of several lifetimes.

That's right in the same area (within a few miles probably) of where the current standing world record blue came from. The other one came from right at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi, this one from the same area (Columbia Bottom conservation area). Hopefully their rigging and methods all qualify for an IGFA record (especially the "only one angler touches the rod" part).
No fish is too good for the grease.

I don't see the problem with keeping a fish this large. I'd rather see someone let go the 30 to 50 pounders that can put out alot of eggs, yet still have plenty of years to live. Who knows how much longer this fish was going to live? I'm sure there are some biologists on here, my next question would be, does a 130 lb fish still lay eggs? And if so, what quality are these eggs? And the fat and red meat will be in the same areas and in the same proportions as a 30 pound blue. No extra. Also, coming out of the Mississippi basin, you know there are quite a few 100 plus pound fish swimming around.

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.
