A friend of ours was telling us about this bridge how it is great fishing at night. We are planning a trip down there the weekend of July 24th. Could anyone tell me some stuff about it. The fishing, lodging, bait, rv parks and anything else that would be helpful...

The last time I went to the bridge all we got was pin fish and other bait robbers. If you go to Balboas or the bridge try Lil,fishies from Academy, they did great once for me.

A while back my family and I thought seriously about buying Balboa. It's got a great history to it and my family has been going there since the early 60s. I'm glad to see it's getting positive reviews though I hate seeing how the economy has caused rates to jump so high. I've fished those waters for decades. It's a great spot for someone who just wants to relax, not work to hard for their fishing and enjoy a week along the water.

I fished it this time 2 yrs ago caught a 6 ft black tip and several other smaller sharks. I fished the end of the bridge. I caught skip jack under the lights on crappie jigs. I had to reel as fast as i could to make it skim the surface, they were hitting almost every cast. If i reeled slow i would get small trout. I used wire leaders and with cut skip jack on circle hooks with 3 oz weight. 15 ft rods and 6/0 Penn reels fished in the ship channel caught the big ones and smaller rods casted past the lights caught 3 ft sharks. Best fishing trip i ever had! All fishing was at night but the big shark hit at 10am

The fishing, lodging, bait, rv parks and anything else that would be helpful... When we go this is where we stay........ http://www.sandollar-resort.com/ ....... Not the Ritz but it's a cozy little place. If you have an RV they have a nice RV Park. It's within 5 minutes of Copano Bay Pier, and they have their own lighted pier also. If you are going to fish for Trout on the Copano Bay Pier; my advice would be live shrimp either free lined or under a Cajun Thunder Popping cork. Also take plenty of Pink & Chartruese & GLOW Spec rigs. Fish the first 3-4 lights and get there early. The locals tend to snatch those lights up first. Once the sun sets the fishing gets pretty good for Specs under these lights. TIGHT LINES!!! Rob
One of these days I'm going to Land the BIG ONE!!

+1 on staying at the Sanddollar. It's very nice. You may also want to try Sandra Bay cottages. We stay there quite often too. There's also Goose Island State Park which is alot of fun, and they have a lit pier.
As far as the pier itself, there are alot of bait thieves, but if you find trout under the lights you can wear them out. I usually use live shrimp or live mullet. Bait thieves will get even very large live shrimp. We bought some huge shrimp from the bait house on the pier and little perch and things would just come right up and chew the legs off and kill them. Don't be surprised if you see a gator or two swim under that pier late at night. They are abundant this year.
If you are interested in Sandra Bay Cottages PM me. I may be able to get you a deal. They have gotten to know my family and sometimes they hook it up.
Good luck.
