I always seem to catch my bowfin on a pop-R and they usually ruin it.

Buck, you don't need crayfish. If you can find them fine. Bowfins will readily take minnows or small sunfish. They hit nearly any type of artificials too. Just drag something moving in front of them and hang on..

Hope those things don't make it to Texas. As mentioned fish for Bowfins. They are really aggressive over at Fork right now.

Was fishing at Fork a month ago off the bank the day before our guided trip. My son pointed out this fish cruising the bank & thought it was a bass. It was a grinnel. Was fishing Fork another time, years back in March. Hung what I thought was a monster bass on a fluke. Wrong, Bowfin/Grinnel.

There's a slew off the Neches River( South of Hwy 94) called Grinnel Slew. Lot's of big grinnels & if you catch a bass, it will be a big one. Bait of choice there 10' worms.
