Dan-o, you can get shiners by the pound at the Mill street bait house in Lewisville.

Shiners cost $$ and shad are free. If you're in the DFW area and traveling north to the big pond there you shouldn't pass up a resourse like free shad, IMOP. I'll prove it to you come Saturday That is unless your a old fat guy like JD and just don't want to go throw the net. Then you have a excuse - sort of...

The Tackle Box sells them to guides for 1/2 price. Of course they probably use a lot more than the average Joe.

How about using live/cut perch or live goldfish for bait?

I've never had luck taking foreign shad to any lake, not ray hubbard, lavon or fork. Then again, operator error could have been a big factor, but with fork I caught some out of there and would drop both down and catch the dog out of catfish and bass off the natives. it's all about the smell, which can differ from lake to lake

Doesn't matter what lake there from, they will eat them right now. If your buying shiners near the lake you had better call ahead to see if your bait shop has them (out of them last trip up), I had to buy black salties and they ate them just fine.

If shad are as hard to find of Texoma as said, foriegn bait like Shad, Shiners, Ghost Minnows & Perch should all get eaten fine.

It might be illegal to transfer game fish but I would not think it is illegal to transfer non-game fish. If it was there would be a lot of people in trouble and guides losint licenses.

If they will eat shiners from Arkansas they will eat shad from anywhere plain and simple. If they don't like em live cut em up. If you still have trouble...... it's not the bait.
