Me and my buddies have a discussion going about the lack of Shad on texoma and taking your on, up there, from a different lake. I know that if fish are hungry they will eat but one of my buddies swear that a guied he used to use in texoma said and swore by the fact that texoma fish don't bite imported Shad near as well as texoma Shad. I took bait there one time last fall and we ended up getting skunked, could of been a plethera of reasons, but that was the only thing we came up with.
What do y'all really think?

If you bring it .. they will eat it..If they dont it aint because its foreign shad..its because of other reasons (operator error is most common) Unless you just wanna go thru the hassle of catching and carrying shad, shiners are working great...Im catching 50-100 fish per day on shiners and until they quit eating -em I aint gonna worry about shad. I know guys running down south to other lakes and bringing shad back and then saying they are catching just as many fish on shiners ...bait is real easy..pull up to the tackle store and say " fill-em up

Maybe the Texas shad were too smart for the Oklahoma stripers.

i have never had a problem useing shad from another lake. i catch my gizzard shad at Lavon (so i dont get skunked at Texoma trying to bait up) and put them in a 55 gallon trash can with a big pump on it and they last about 6 hours with 30-40, 8-12 inchers in it. i have a AC/DC plug in the back of my truck so i can plug anything into it. if the striper are near the shad when you drop it, they will bite it.

Ok, I'm gonna be the fly in the ointment ... while I'm sure this has been brought up before, I don't recall seeing it on the forum. With the concerns of zebra mussels infesting our lakes, isn't it unwise to transfer shad from lake to lake, as this involves transferring water from lake A to lake B in the livewell, and any mussel larvae would presumably be very alive & well in there?
Just a thought.

Thanks and understand, it was just a question. I could not think of any reason any Shad would not work as well as any other. Thanks JD and TarponFly for real answers. I am catching here on Cedar creek everytime I go with hybrids to 26" but I have not switched to livebait yet. I will though. Again, thank y'all.

Just a thought. No zebra mussels in tap water. We'll be bringing 160 gallons up there Friday.

taking shad from a non-infected lake to texoma should not be an issue. i believe they have allready found zebra mussels in the downstream lakes from texoma i.e. lavon
