I would like to do some salt water fishing before the Gulf is declared a toxic waste and posted no smoking. Would prefer a lighted pier, not to crowded on weekends, or a beach for surf fishing that allows parking and fishing on the beach.
I am unable to negotiate uneven surfaces so jetties and rocks are out for the most part.
Used to go to the 61st Street pier with my brother; but it and him are gone.
I see a pier at Quintanna at the end of 8th st on the Google satmap. Is it still there?

I haven't fished the Gulf in years and never alone. Anyone got any ideas where I can go?

As far as I know, there are only two lighted piers between Sabine Pass and Palacios. I could be wrong, but there is Seawolf Park in Galveston which is very crowded on weekends and 18th St. in San Leon.

There is a small pier in Quantana Beach, but it doesn't go out very far, and is not lighted.

I am also anxiously awaiting 61st in Galveston opening up, which should help take some of the overflow away from Seawolf. I called Seawolf last night (Saturday 5/22/10) and according to the worker there, fishermen were almost elbow to elbow on the pier.

Good luck, and I hope you find what you are looking for.

Not very encouraging, but thanks for the report.
Its about 5 hours to most anywhere Galveston to Sabine Pass and almost 9 hours to Corpus. I work all night and get off at 6 am Sat morning so the shorter the drive the better.
May just take another vacation and start at Sea Rim and work my way to Galveston and try the beaches. Have a truck bed ten I have not tried out yet. Might make an interesting trip.

The Jettys on the Bolivar side of Galveston Bay is an area that you might find accessible. It is not lighted but the first 200 yards are so have a sidewalk on top. Before Ike there was a baitshop there but I have not been down there since Ike. Good luck with finding a spot.

If I aint mistaken they have a lighted pier you can pay to fish on. This is where I would go I don't think you will regret it. Talk to OldFrog or Skeeter151 they know plenty about this lake. I'm sure they can point you in the rite direction for some lighted Piers and other land based fishin spots.............TIGHT LINES!!!!
