I caught the 7 pound 8 ounce fish which looked like a five pounder except it was as big around as it was long. Almost if not all that placed caught the fish up the creek along about a hundred yard stretch. It was madness, but we managed 19.08 for 5th and got nothing for big bass go figure. I didn't even know where the lake was when I left this morning so I am happy to get some cash. Overall the lake is highly overrated and not what everyone said it was before it closed. Great tournament though and was well run by the guys at Fun N Sun.

I'm not gonna out him here but someone was having some morning rumbles in the gut.... ..of course as we are all giving him advice we realize we are being filmed. Casey was having a hard time this morning? I've heard that about him.

Its not Casey.... .....though he was crying about the camera being heavy. without giving anything away i heard he got some great footage today. in all seriousness with the wind and the heat plus the 90-92 degree water he was a trooper. You could literally feel the heat from the water out there. I can only imagine wagging around that heavy camera all day in it.

Today was one of the best/worst tournament days of our lives. We were lucky enough to be part of the "100 yd. stretch" 30+ fish all being keepers is better than anything we usually do in a tournament. The worst came when my partner hooked an 8 lber who got wrapped around a stump right at the boat and in seconds it was gone. We were dissapointed at the time, but thinking it would have culled our 17 lbs. to about 22 lbs, we thought with all the 20 and 30 lb. stringers, it wouldn't cost us any money. When we pulled up to weigh-in and heard 19 lbs. won, our stomachs sank. What could have been. Seems like the story of our lives. At least we will always have the landmark that we now call the "$12,000 stump". Something interesting we observed today was Monte Coon and his partner both hooking the same fish at the same time and playing tug o war with it around a limb. Can't say i've ever seen that before.

I heard the early report is a bunch of dink fish. I think it's too early to determine what this lake is capable of producing. It was never know to be great this time of year of course we all had huge expectations for what we would find. The best months on Squaw Creek were always the winter months so at this point I don't really expect the big ones to show up till later in the year. Keep in mind the main lake water temp right now is around 90 degrees and the lake is over 140 feet deep. I think the big ones are still there but much deeper than most of us fished today. We caught around 50-60 bass today and everyone of them was over 14 inches with only one that was close. Whether it has any Monsters or not it's still an awesome lake I can't wait to see what this winter holds!!!

We did get some great footage, I just hope it all turns out.
I have never seen so many 4-5 lb fish before. Bill told us before the tournament that the big girls out there don't bite well during the summer, but you get out there on a COLD winter day and you'll go home heart broke and sore.
We were so close to other boats that we got shot's of Ton's of boats catching fish.
We did get video of a alligator about 10 foot long, and have some FUNNY FUNNY on board stuff that happened to Jeff.
Monte is in there will be in there a few times and one of them is of him and his partner getting heart broke....Together????
Had a Great time, but I will say I have a New respect for Dirk. There is nothing easy about filming. I know half of the shot's will not turn out as I would forget this or that. But still got some good ones.
You can never really put the camera down, as you have to keep it ready and on or set. You have so many button to constantly check and monitor and you have to think about sun, the anglers, the shot....
All in all, it was a BLAST and I loved it. Lot of learning to do as that was a different ball game, but it was fun.

Dannie Golden and I were also part of the group that fished that stretch of trees up the river and it was awesome. We only had 2 fish in the boat after trying to fish the Gulf of Squaw Creek prior to running up the river. Once we got back there and saw the 15-20 boats we almost left but then saw literally EVERY boat catching fish non-stop so we found some space to give it a try. It took us about 45 min to figure out what they wanted but when we did it was ON! In about 3 hours we caught 30-35 fish and only 2 of them were under 3 pounds with ~25 of them being 4+....we managed a 5-8 big fish and wound up getting 4th with a 19.15# 4 fish bag. I gave Dannie a hard time for making my last fish spit up about a 5" shad because that vomit cost us 3rd place which was only .02 ahead of us. As far as the lake being overrated I am not sure you can call any lake overrated where you can catch 35 fish in 3-4 hours with nearly all of them being 4+. Had we started up there it would have been close to a 100 fish day...how can you call that overrated? BTW - for those fishing out there soon, ALL of our fish in that timber were caught on Gene Larew plastics...we started with Hoody Daddy Jrs then when we wanted to try to find bigger fish we switched to El Salto Grande 12" worms and culled 4 times.

It was a four fish tournament. We were up there all day too. I can attest that there were probably 200 or more 4 pound plus fish caught within our site.
