fished EVERY cove in the murrell park area from 2 -12 ft. lots of snakes in some, lots of perch in others. no big female crappie or males of any size anywhere to be found. back to the lavon coves, I guess.

Guy did pretty good there a few days ago. http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbt...ppe#Post4867889

It should heat up real soon in the shallows.

Pretty sure Grapevine warms slower than other lakes around here. Usually about a couple weeks to a month behind the patterns of other lakes for cats and crappie sometimes per Guy.

I don't know about the spawning going on still, just saying that stuff always seems behind over there for some reason. Brian when are you ever gonna come down to LL and fish some with me? I've got some sweet binoculars and maybe we can track Anthony down somewhere out there wink

yes, I Crappie fish Grapevine at least once a week. this past weekend was the first time anyone caught fish really shallow. we are just the start of it, but what might make it inconsistent is all these storms and water level up 1.5' over the weekend.

I will give report after tomorrow.

I haven't caught a shallow crappie there yet this year, but I've caught some really good ones in a little deeper water....still full of eggs. Try 10-14'.

I caught 11 keepers today out of the boat house 13-14' fishing 10', I did try shallow and not a single bite. My first black nose! 6 of the 11 had eggs, still pretty tight.

I fished the Vine yesterday evening way up in a cove on the north side. Trolled the shallows (2-8 feet deep) for about two hours until dark with no crappie bites. Was casting minnows at different depths from 1 to 4 feet under a slip bobber.

After dark I fished the boat slips for about 45 minutes before giving up. Caught about a dozen sand bass but no crappie.

Way to go Rob, thanks for sharing, nice pics. My son and I fished GV yesterday trying the shallow brush at Meadowmere and got nothing. We ventured up the creek and I caught what I think was a 6" small mouth. My son had a sandy but it broke off. We had to leave although I wanted to work back toward the lake.
