Had a trip on Grapevine Sunday morning, and they are finally starting to wake up after that long winter sleep. We caught crappie up to 14" on shallow brush and ledges. Everything caught on either SlabMeSilly or Rocky Top jigs, in green/white combinations. I expect the Vine to just get better every day now....and I can't wait. BTW, nice seeing Jacky Wiggins today thumb

That's great to hear Guy! What a strange spring so far.

Thanks for the report Guy! We fished brush piles Sunday 15-18 feet deep and didnt have much luck, only caught a few. The females we caught were full of eggs. We fished the shores a little, but not enough...

middle of May, from what I hear typical timing for Grapevine. anyone know why Grapevine goes so much later than other lakes?

I suspect it's because its deeper, and narrower - stays cooler, than most???

That and the fishing gods don't want a bunch of bank pounders on the lake....except of course, the bass fishermen bang

Grapevine has very limited vertical structure. Vertical structure allows the water column to warm up faster. And yes, it's deeper than most and definately narrower, so the surface area of the lake is significantly smaller than other lakes which reduces the rate of penatration by the sun. In other words, it stays colder, longer and deeper than most lakes. These are just a 'few' of the reasons that the Vine is so hard to learn to fish compared with, say, Lewisville.

I noticed my murrell ramp is back open so I'll be out there soon to just relax and hunt some bigguns.

Hey Guy, it was good seeing you out there too. Good job on the fish and I wish I was fishing instead of working on installing a boat lift. I did bass fish some on Monday as one last farewell to my BassCat. She has a new owner now and I am in the market for another boat. Plan on looking at a couple tomorrow. Hope to be a boat owner again soon so I can bump into you again smile
