I haven't seen any small ponds with anyone wanting me to fish here around Killeen, any ideas? You can get a pass for fort hood, its 10-30 dollars, cant remember how much exactly... there are several stocked ponds on post you can fish, with good catfish in them. It will also give you access to a couple good spots on cowhouse creek. They stock the ponds several times a year.

My retired brother can probably get that license for cheaper, I'm planning to try some of em out.. Thanks.
Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

I bought that exact same boat. Same deal, $300 bucks although that was 10 years ago. I bet that is a Kingfisher.
Anyways, pulled it home and scorched a bearing on the trailer, had to pitstop and hit NAPA - $55 Got the boat home, took it off the trailer, removed outboard. Outboard was shot but I kinda expected that - bought an older used one for $1500 Transom was rotted to the core - replaced with marine grade plywood and did the glass work myself, still costs me $400 in materials Floor was rotted to the hull - same deal as above but about $350 in parts/materials. Trailer was in bad shape, sandblast and respray, new bunks, misc parts, bearings, tires, lights, etc - $850 New carpet, paint, wire, etc, etc, etc, for boat was another $1000. No telling how many times to the parts house for a misc bolt/washer/wire, etc, $250 dollars
When I was done with it I had over $4500 in that boat that was worth $800 bucks. It ran good and I took a lot of pride in the build process but in the end I could have purchased an older Ranger, Skeeter, etc and been much better off.
When I purchased it I knew it needed a lot of work but I thought "how bad can it be"...well now you know.
Caught a ton of crappie and catfish out of that thing!

Caught a ton of crappie and catfish out of that thing! Ouch!! You win . . . . I was feeling bad at how much I was spending on my latest project boat. Not anymore, thanks.

One thing you might consider... If you're nearly 16 you're old enough to earn some money. (Not trying to sound like an old man here, but) when I was 16 I had already been working for a couple of years and had a lot of money saved for a kid. When I was in high school I bought a new 4-wheeler off the show room floor for $3500 cash and I was proud as the dickins that I had saved money on my own for that. Save up and get something reliable that won't cost you headache after headache. You can easily get a 16' aluminum boat with a 50 hp engine in fine shape for $3k.
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

I recently sold an xpress bass boat in great shape (my first "bass boat") for 2500...16' with a 50hp motor. Always started and worked great, just not pretty. You should be able to find something like that no problem.

everyone has to start somewhere. a little work and you'll have a functional boat!!!! the hull looks in decent shape, a little marine grade ply, some fiberglass and sweat and in the water she goes!!!

Buy something lake ready...two man, or aluminum boat...you won't regret it. Too much work, time, and money involved to restore that baot. And you will never get back from it what you put into it. What is wrong with a kayak or tube for now?

You could buy a lake ready boat for what that one will end up costing you.
Yes I did admit defeat. Good job back to back champion

If you are just wanting to hit the water and ok going by yourself and maybe 1 other person get you a bassbuster and keep in mind you will be limited to coves and creeks (which is not a bad thing at the right time). If you want to spend a little more get you a jon boat again you can still fish creeks, coves and on calm days move around the lake a little more (you can even rig it with a fish finder)...if you want complete freedom of where you fish then you will be working for a couple of summers while you save several thousand for a bass boat or something comparable.

hey just to let you know, i have had a 8ft bass buster for two years now and the ponds on fort hood are great, if you just want to get out i would reccomend buying one like the one above for 300(from slimyfish), fish the ponds on hood for a little bit while you save up for a bigger boat thats what i did i am finally going to get me a boat next month. also i dont know what you fish for, but i like fishing for crappie and have meet several people on here that are willing to let you sit in their back seat until you get a boat of your own.
