Well, I got a great deal off someone on the forum .. 14.5' absolutely PERFECT boat for the 2 of us and my brother said no.. So I made a decision of getting a job in a month when I'm 16 and buying a boat for my self.. ONLY myself, no 2 way splits, no sharing.. Just tired of them complaining.. Thanks for all the help guys, any good cheap boats like bass busters just send them my way I will try to work things out.

Catch and Release fishing is a lot like golf. You don't have to eat the ball to have a good time.

Hah, yup. I'm probably going to end up buying a good sized bass buster for something around 500.

Only thing I'm worried about is the stability. Does anyone own one and go on lakes like Belton or Stillhouse? I would like to be able to go across the lake without getting flipped! Would a 18' Skeeter zoom by me and toss me over?

Realistically are you planning on being on the main lake out in the great wide open? I've been in a 16' on Lewisville and a 30' Baja went by at half throttle and that was a rodeo. Seriously you will be better off staying in a protected area close to where your lauch point will be in that rig. Hopefully whatever comes by in the boat run is going full throttle or your in the forest and everyone is idleing and behaving themselves. A good friend bought a Bass Tender some time ago and put a 5hp and trolling motor on it and it seemed pretty stable. When he bought it I hauled it home for him in my f150 sb and we both unloaded it. He bought an old Dilly trailer and modified it for the boat and he became proficient at loading and unloading by himself and even took it out on Lewisville alot. Main thing is use common sense if it doesn't look safe then don't do it.

Man, that looks like it's going to take a lot of work. I'm not very handy so I saved my money and got me something that's water ready. Good luck.

That boat looks like alot of work needs to go into it before you ever get in the water with it. You could get a Kayak for about the same moey, I know it's not the same but you would be on the water and fishing tomorrow. Good luck with it.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know when to go fishing.

Again patience grasshopper. Research there are options available yes saving up 5k is one. I remember the first boat I bought was a 72 15' Terrybass with a 35rude faded green but floated for $800. look around this site has all sorts of options as well as most everyone here will help you look and offer opinions. Something to start looking at, if you decide to go aluminum or fiberglass have it checked out.

go with a bass buster or jon boat for now like said above, bass buster you will not want to take it out on the main lake on a rough day, I own one and a full size bass boat, that bass buster will give you as much fun most of the time. Keep looking through the papers and online you'll find one for cheap I bought my lil bass buster from a guy for about 250.00, I have had it for 12 yrs have fished several small lakes and ponds. Moral of the story is be patient dont rush into something youll regret. I even nowa days do all my fishin out of a tube when I go pond hopping cheap and also a blast when you hook a big bass.

I've got a 14ft square stern aluminum canoe which is leak free that I will sell you. You can run it like I used to do with a low cost Minkota trolling Motor, or just paddle it. The boat itself is fairly stable as it is a bit wider in the middle than a regular canoe. It's not too heavy and I can pick it up and load it in the back of my truck without any trouble. I got a new boat, motor, and trailer this year so I can let the canoe go.

Anyway, you can PM me if you are interested and I can send you a couple of photos.

If I were granted but one wish,... I'd Fix Stupid..!

I am somewhat in the same boat as you. I am currently rebuilding my 79 Skeeter but needed something to fish in now. Purchased a Pelican Predator that will fit in the back of my Nissan pickup. Bought it from a forum member for $400 and it came with a trolling motor and battery. Found a like new 5hp Briggs & Stratton outboard for $250 off Craiglist and have hit several lakes in the last couple of months. The boat is very stable and fishing two people is no problem. I should have the Skeeter up and running by summer but until then the predator continues to catch fish. Find a cove and a small boat and get to fishing. You then can save your money at your own pace and find a used boat lake ready.

I noticed you said you are almost 16. How are you going to be transporting your boat when you get it. Do you have or have access to a pick up or are you going to be having to get someone to take you in a car or SUV? It might effect our recommendations.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should!
