I usually fillet my fish at the ramp area and then throw the remains in the water deep enough that they can't be seen, much less smelled. Nature takes care of it from there. If I take crappie home and fillet them, I put the remains in several plastic grocery bags (so it doesn't leak) and then put them in my freezer. The bag freezes into one big lump and then I put it in MY trash can the day of trash pick-up. No muss, no fuss and no smell

+1 Guy Usually all it takes is a little thought (thoughtfullness) and the RIGHT way will come to you. As for me, I figure MY fish guts are MY fish guts. Besides I clean my fish at home cuz that's where I leave my camera and I gotta get a pic for the TFF 1st.

[quote=Guide Chuck Rollins]There's nothing wrong with cleaning at the ramp but I do agree all the remains shouldn't be left to smell or see. When I get don't cleaning at a ramp you can't tell I've even been there. Most of thtrimester I'm at my priate dock anyway but sometimes I have to trailer. A little clean up goes a long ways.

Alot of fisherman dont realize its not just other fisherman having to smell it, but we as fisherman are border line not accepted by alot of people. Im a duck hunter in the winter and its sad how bad people hate hunters. We need to do our part to make sure fisherman dont recieve the same treatment.

I usually clean my fish at home and dump the leftovers out in the pasture... always fun to count the buzzards... have had up to 30 at once before. Now that's cheap entertainment! Same here. Had 16 on Sunday...... nothing left but bones.

I clean at the house and put by the curb. I drag out the water hose for the trash man to see. cause he puts it in a little dumptser which dumps it through the top. and he can spray out the little dumpster. he doesn't like the fish but he like the water hose..this seems to be the only way, without bothering to many people.

Guy, Great idea about using the freezer until trash day. I just set out a can that I put fish in last Saturday. Let's just say that the neighborhood will be ripe if the lid opens up tonight. Now if I can just make sure my wife doesn't see the bag marked 'fish' and bring it in to defrost...

I bury mine in the tomato garden. I grow tomatoes big enough they a slice out of the middle will cover a piece of Mrs.Bairds i wish i had access to more fish remains. when/if a mess of them is available, my chickens get first dibs and the leavings are buried in the garden. it is a fine fertilizer for anything.

The remains also work well for chum. Freeze them and take them with you frozen the next time you go looking for catfish. Dump them in your favorite fishing hole frozen and hold on to your rod.

right no room in freezer.. I'm looking to buy a chest freezer this year. Thanks for the idea. Give me a call and I'll help you make room in the freezer for those guts. Some of those filets are probably getting old anyway. It's the least I can do for the evironment and help a TFF'er out too.

Be careful burying them in the backyard or garden if you have dogs, they will find them and dig them up. If you bury them, set something heavy on top of the bury spot for a month or so. Having your dog come inside and jump on your lap with a piece of 2 week old decomposing fish in his mouth will make you want to puke.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I ought to be a felony to leave trash anywhere except trash recepticals. Can you imagine what their kitchen must look like? Animals. They probbly carp in the corner of the living room to draw the flies away from the bedroom. I hate literers!!
