Please stop. Its ok to clean the fish at the ramp, but throwing your crappie carcass in a big pile at the ramp is uncool. Kickapoo ramp lake palestine. Not everyone finds your dead fish after a few days apealing.
Thats all.

I hate that. Someone cleaned a bunch on the dock at Leon a few weeks ago. What a mess. Throw them in the water at least. let the catfish eat them. I wont mention who, but there is a guide that I have watched clean fish on the boat more than one time. I have decided that next time I see this , I will turn him in. This isnt the only thing I have seen him do , but one of 3 things he does.

+1 Texas Flight. The fish cleaning at the ramp AND the bow boys leaving their dead gar & carp lyin around really needs to STOP. Kickapoo is the worst but it gets bad at Flat Creek Public ramp too.

Ditto,
Seams like it only gets worse or even smellier as the heat comes upon us. With the price of fertilizer I may be visiting the ramps soon...

Some states it is illegal to throw the fish remains in the water or even your left over minnows or worms. Ought to be the law in Texas too.

I don't want a law against throwing minnows in the lake. We call it chum but it's like Mickey-D's to the fish (& birds), but guts and heads, really, isn't that what PLASTIC TRASH BAGS are for. Come on guys, bag up that stuff and carry it home or to a dumpster.

There's nothing wrong with cleaning at the ramp but I do agree all the remains shouldn't be left to smell or see. When I get don't cleaning at a ramp you can't tell I've even been there. Most of thtrimester I'm at my priate dock anyway but sometimes I have to trailer. A little clean up goes a long ways.

There was a long thread about this a while back and i couldn't believe it, but it is against the law in Texas to throw your fish remains back in the water. I think it's considered littering. I'm sure leaving them piled up on the bank is not legal either, but I think it's plumb crazy that you're not allowed to throw the remains out into the water. I've cleaned plenty at the ramp on the back of the boat after it was pulled up on the trailer and parked up under a shade tree. We'd put the carcasses and guts in a 5 gallon bucket, go dump them in the water (not directly on the ramp) but down the shore line a bit. Rinse out the bucket, and take some back up to the truck to wash off the knives and the cutting boards. The turtles, catfish, crawfish, and no telling what else takes care of those remains which sink just fine when the gut cavity is sliced up. Get this - it IS legal to put them in the trash can at the ramp, but you're not supposed to throw them back in the lake. I suppose a trash can with a pile of fish heads and guts getting ripe in the 100 degree Texas summer sun is less of a nuisance than throwing them in the water where nature can take care of the disposal.

I don't know about private areas, I suppose they would be regulated by the Association/Owner's but I'm pretty sure that the law against throwing those remains in the water at public areas is due in part to the swimming activity. I have seen several youngsters have to get a bandaid or even stitches in the bottom of a foot because of what folks leave behind and as we all know a crappie dorsal fin can make a nasty wound. I repeat, it's not that difficult to bag up fish cleaning remains and carry them home to be picked up with the household garbage.

I usually clean my fish at home and dump the leftovers out in the pasture... always fun to count the buzzards... have had up to 30 at once before. Now that's cheap entertainment!
I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.

I take mine and throw them out in the woods. It wont stink very long at all because the coons, bobcats and other animals usually pick it all clean in a night or so. +1 on the buzzards...lol..
Hold up on the dumpsters around the schools please. I teach in an elementary school in Midlothian and last year some genius threw all his fish remains in the school dumpster just after it had been emptied. We had to shut down the playground for two days do to the smell and we had women teachers puking in the parking lot going to and from the building....what a mess.

I have a dry creek bed across the street from my house. I dump my remains there all the time. Ususally there are gone within 24 hours.
