Fork is crowded enough as it is without any additional tournaments.

Joe Sixpack and his family should also have a place to fish; especially, if Joe, et al, are tax payin' Texas residents.

Don't you think...

I have fished lake fork since it opened, with tourneys on the lake or not it is always crowded.there are as many guides and there client's on that lake daily as most tourney's have entries. And as far as taxes go, tournament fisherman are not exempt either,we own just as much water as the joe sixpacks.

I would have to agree with leaving it as is....with the slot the majority of the big fish being caught are being returned to the spot where they were caught...they have a law protecting them....if you don't think things are alright then look at the list of guides on Fork...they are there for some reason...there are plenty other lakes with big fish and no slot...if that's what you desire go to one of them...Pines is hot right now and not much further....Fork has made it's name with a slot and I see no reason to change that...

I'm 100% C&R and don't fish tournies down here ( because i just moved here and don't know the lakes well jst yet). We have a few lakes back home in CT that have slots on them and we have tournies on them all the time. The difference is we have to pull a permit for every tourny in ct through the DEP. When we fish a slot lake we are issued waivers to let us keep slot fish in our live wells until the weight in. After the tourny whoever pulled the permit fills out a sheet giving weights of all fish caught and its returned to the DEP so they can study the #'s and size of fish without sending Biologists out to gather that info. Saves them time and lets the real winner get the check instead of someone that was lucky enough to boat a limit of rats on a slot. While the guy that could have put a 25+ lb bag goes home empty handed.

I say raise both ends. The more big fish going directly back into the lake immeaditley the better. Raising the lower end should be better for the tournament guys as well. Seems like a win win.

They tried that on Fork during the mid/late 90's
( Slot waiver for special people)
Lake fork sportsman society was born , and proved the mortality rate of fish held in livewell, then released was 80 some percent.
was the first time TPWD was sued ..

they settled, and "NO slot waivers"

What if parks and wild life honored the sal program, but released the fish back into fork to spawn. Say for a 2 year period. This way fork can increase the odds of having more fish over 24".The true genes carry on.

the only reason the lake has been able to sustain is because of the slot....raise both ends or leave it alone

Sounds like about a 50/50 decision, guess she will always have a slot and that's fine I still love to fish there and alway,s will.

i say leave it alone. Fork gets sooooo much pressure and still produces a ton of SAL's every yr. Until that stops, i would leave it the way it is.
