Have you guys seen any decent carp in the ponds in the Katy area? I live in Katy but have not fished any of the local ponds. I tried Peckam but did not have any luck.

Went and fished at La Centerra with a few friends. Caught 2 small large mouthes, 1 smallie, and a big crappie, all on the same 2in. silver Rattlin' Rapala. One of my friends caught a crappie that was nearly a pound and a half. Another caught a 6inch smallmouth on a 3inch plastic frog crankbait.
Edit: All fish were released. Total of 12 fish caught.

I've lived in Cinco Ranch for almost twenty years and have fished the major Cinco Ranch lake for all of that time. The lake has only been stocked once about twenty years ago with Florida LMB. There have been some significant bass caught in that lake over the years. Lake management company puts forage fish in the lake several times a year and when they do, you have to match the hatch to catch fish.
You have to be a resident to fish the Cinco Ranch lakes and no fishing licenses required. In addition to bass, there are loads of sunfish and catfish with a few crappie. I have never caught a smallmouth from the lake.
This lake fished so good at one point I sold my bass boat and fished exclusively there. My PB of 11+ was caught there plus a 10 and many 7 and 8's. However recently the size has not been the same. Find a friend that lives in Cinco Ranch and give it a try. I would invite you but I'm working overseas now and when home I fish public lakes with my son.
Good luck! Try white flukes and watermelon lemon or cream senkos.

I have never caught a smallmouth from the lake. I caught a small bass about 12 inches, and it was brown, not green. I've never seen a brown LMB, so I thought it was safe to call it a SMB.. a friend of mine caughta brown one too.

Glad I could put you on some fish. Try flipping a jig for the bigger bass or you could drop shot a finesse worm. I like to try my luck with top water there. I never get tired seeing them blow up the top. Crank baits and spinners always work as well. I think the brown ones are rockies (rock bass). Red eyes, right? Good job on the catch and release....more fum for everyone. I think I would have kept that pound and a half crappie though.
