I am a college student in San Antonio. My normal fishing holes are an hour south of San Antonio. I was wondering what places around SA are good fishing for Cats and Bass. I was looking into Canyon Lake and i was just wondering where at Canyon Lake a bank fisherman would have decent to good success for pretty much any fish, but Catfish and since the White Bass run is on where to try for them. I am hoping this can become a place i can go just to relax and have some fun and still catch some fish. Any Suggestions? Thanks

First of all welcome to the forum!

There is a lot of information about what you are looking for already posted on numberous post in the Whit Bass and Hybrid section, the Freshwater Reports Section and especially the Catfishing Section.

Most here that are from the S.A. area will help you out and put you onto the best locations.

There are so many places around that it would be hard to list them all and give directions in just one post, so you might want to spend some time reading other post just to start, and kind of get an idea of where some of these places are that we talk about.

First place that comes to mind and is fairly easy as far as bank access and with a good catch percentage for the bank angler would be Calaveras or Braunig. These are the two power plant lakes southeast of the city just outside the city limits and they charge a minimal fee and you can fish all day and cover a lot of shoreline. You have a chance to catch some really nice cats, and some trophy reds, and hybrid stripers when the conditions are right.

I would concentrate on those two lakes just to get your feet wet so to speak. I would consider those two lakes a school lake, because you can catch fish fairly easy and they are extremely user friendly, so once you learn the best spots there and how to catch them, you can go just about anywhere and catch fish.

Go on over to the catfish section and do a little reading and asking questions of the Calaveras people and you'll be into the fish in no time!

Again Welcome!

Just one more cast!
