I thought about taking the cast net but if shad are that hard to catch I'll just buy minnows.

sorry, I meant that you throw a shad out on a hook, and the fish hit it ASAP! Its a fish every cast everytime we use shad. My wife wears em out with the shad, while I flyfish

I think with it being an EL Nino year, there will be plenty of rain the next few weeks. Maybe even too much. I know Buchanan is still 16 ft low, but we also dont want a chocolate river situation. I've been many times when the river was screaming and it sucked! You cant get a boat to stay in one spot, the water is murky. So, let it continue to rain, but in moderation. Also, many are predicting the whites wont be there until later in the season, due to the brutal winter were having.

"As of 4:30 on Friday afternoon, the level of Lake Buchanan is slowly rising at 1004.15 feet above mean sea level (ft msl), which is about 8.0 feet below its historic February average of 1,012.12 ft msl" It may be 16 feet low to FULL POOL, but only 8 feet below historic Feb average. Most importantly the Colorado river is running at 1035 cubic feet per second and the river is high enough to get the fish over the sand bar.

My parents drove down to the state park this past thursday and said the boat ramp is in the water but not deep enough to unload the big boat yet.

No, we have reservations down there for spring break and they just wanted to see if the water level was high enough for the whites to run. They were on their way back from a buisness trip to houston and had the chance to swing by there.

Heading out on Friday after work, it looks like we might finally have a nice weekend for a change. I'm not expecting much, I bet the river will still be on the muddy side.

The Colorado is pretty close to normal but still off color in Mills and most of the water is coming from Browns creek watershed where everything is full and overflowing. Not sure about the San Saba river and Brady creek downstream from here but feel like they are still providing some runoff.

The lake is still rising and the whites should be running soon. Some got trapped there last year and we have caught them all year long.
