Braid main line brass weight brass clacker glass bead leader 12 to 15 lb mono usually Brekley Big Game I spend most of my time on Lewisville, Grapevine, and Ray Roberts and this set up has worked great for me. Most of the time I use a Rattlesnake or Baby Brush Hog in whatever color the fish want for the day. +1

This is what I use, and my opinion:
Shallow: 1/2 oz. Tungsten weight No Beads, nothing, just swivel 3 ft. leader of floro with mono being my main line
Deep/Summer: 3/4 oz. Tungsten, 1 oz. on windier days No beads (if I do, I use Tungsten Force beads) 5 to 7 ft. leader of floro with mono as main line

I've used the Lindy weights before and really liked them. The shape of them prevented a lot of hang-ups in rock. Tungsten is nice but expensive. As many weights as I loose in rocks, I would go broke using Tungsten. I just use the lead egg sinkers now and they work fine.

For he guys that prefer weight W/ bead - do you find that the weight W/ bead gets you more bites than weight / NO noisemaker? I still haven't proven it to myself, yet.
just wondering what yer thoughts were.

Mike, I like 20lb big game all the way. No swivel. I use the carolina keepers. You need two, because they wear out and don't hold. Plus it is so much easier to adjust your leader length. I use either 3/4oz or 1/2oz lead weight (lightest I can get away with). I like the slow fall on the 20lb mono as well. I like my bait to float as much as it can. Plus you can't beat a chartruese/pepper stud fry Those fish on Roberts don't like them though! I like this idea...and if you wanted a clacker you could always add the glass and brass. I am currently using a 50lb braid main line and a 20 lb flouro leader, 1 oz tungsten weight with force beads. I feel the small diameter of the braid with the 1 oz weight gives me better casting distance than using mono or flouro as my main line which equals more water covered. But I am going to give the carolina keeper idea a try.

I use a tungsten weight with a clacker. I dont use braid because i dont have a smooth sweeping hookset, i set the hook hard so i use 20 lb mono line and a flouro leader, If i use braid i break my leader on the hookset a lot. I dont use glass beads because i have had them crack and fray my line

Questions for those who use braid for mainline...How do you maintain contact with the rig on very windy days? I always get a bow in the line and don't seem to get the bite tranmitted through braid in this situation. This goes for T-rig and weightless as well.

drift with the wind, drag c-rig, let out lots of line to maintain bottom contact. works on long flats.

When its windy, add more weight until you can feel it good.

Alton- I have honestly caught way more fish without noise than with. To the point that I dont even buy beads anymore. I alos prefer the sweep technique rather than jumping or bouncing the bait. It keeps in contact with the structure, and you feel about everything.

I also use the Carolina Keepers. Two is a great idea Danny. I'll have to try that. 1/2 ounce - 3/4 ounce and I use brass, tungsten and lead. Just depends on the day I guess. More brass and tungsten these days. I use twin beads for more noise. I like the Carolina Keepers because less knots is always better. 20lb Flourocarbon or LFT Flourohybrid.

A bead with a LARGE hole is used to help protect the knot. A tungsten weight will cause the line/knot to weaken and it will break over time. So beads are not JUST for noise. You can get the large eye Acrylic Beads in a hobby shop and they don't chip or cut your line like glass beads. And they are pretty and cheap too!
