Sounds like Walmart is trying to get out of the marine battery market. Shame as I remember the one in Mineola selling out of batteries every time the Big Bass Slash happens at Fork. Might be worth a call to their home office.

Deka batteries are the only way to go, DC27 for trolling motor, 24M6 for the cranking battery.If you run a lot of electronics try the 24M6X cranking batteries. My 05' 206 came with them and I finally replaced the trolling motor batteries last yr. the cranking battery will be replaced in the spring with the 24M6X

If tournament fishing or your time on the water is important to you then get off the bad battery replacement cycle. Give the Continental batteries and any other battery you bought at Wally World away to someone who owns a travel trailer.

Then go buy some Optima blue tops or other comparable brand. Too many boat dealers prep the new boats with crappy batteries to save you some money for what turns out to be a very short time.

If you are buying a new boat - bring the batteries that you want to the dealer and have them put them in - or better yet put them in yourself.

I can see where Wal-Mart could be losing money in the Marine Battery business with the liberal return policies.
More than one person has told me that they just take their batteries back every year (regardless of condition) and exchange for new ones.

Went to Sartins Marine today and they gave me credit(pro-rated)the battery from the other "DEALER"

Well that's great and stand-up imo. Still I would consider in the future another source. I've seen so many say Walmart does/does not have a warranty I personally would check anyone's policy before making a purchase. Doesn't matter what label is on the battery there are only a few manufacturer's for instance Johnson Controls is prolly the largest one and they build the everstart's, Interstates as well as the premium Optima's. It's up to the label (marketer) to develope and honor warranty policies. As far as Wallyworld I've had to take a couple of truck batteries back one 4 years old that I tested that was breaking down under a load and the auto-manager tried every way he could to prove me wrong ended up getting a new one for $35. Another one almost 3 years old that I tested had a dead cell and wouldn't hold a charge they tested and they gave me a new one free of charge. Anytime I've taken a tire or battery back anywhere they check it. But glad you were taken care of.

I put 3 swilmart batteries in my boat the starting battry went bad in 3 months. I took it back and exchanged it two weeks later that one went bad during a tournament costing me $1000. I took that one back and demanded my money back after 2 different mgrs. I got my money went and bought Interstates they lasted over 3 years. I will never have another Neverstart battery in my boat. I have had Continental battries in the boat I have now for over a year with no problems.

its all about your charger..........the right battery charger is what makes or breaks your battery life.and how soon after u use them untill you charge them makes a differance.

sam's club sells interstate batteries, that's where i get mine....rick

From my experience, the only batteries I have lost early over the years have been "over cooked" by a faulty charger.
And I know if I don't charge them consistently right after use, they won't last that long before performance issues are noticed.

I did a little experiment last week...I am in the market for deep cycle batteries right now and thought Wal Mart would be a good place to start. I have read many reviews; some good, some bad , and some fair on almost every battery out there. Anyway, the EverStart MAXX had a good report overall and the stats for their group 29 battery seem to be above average. The information I found from all the different stores, is that Wal Mart will not warranty any of the marine batteries above a 24 group class. What is disturbing is that they don't tell you this, nor do they have any information posted where the marine batteries are located back in automotive. So if you buy one without asking, you will be stuck with it. I noticed that when my receipt was printed, that it didn't have any warranty information on it like the automotive batteries do when you get your receipt. The manager couldn't give me an explanation at first, and actually insisted the battery has a 36 month pro rate on it, and I didn't have to have a warranty in writing...my "receipt" was all I needed. But when quizzed about why it didn't print the warranty info on the receipt, he couldn't answer. I had him refund my transaction right then, and told him I would not buy anything without a written warranty. Needless to say he was quite "miffed" at having to do this.
I was very curious, so I called eight other stores and recieved mixed answers to this same question. Some of them didn't have a clue. I emailed Bentonville and am still waiting on a reply to this for absolute confirmation. I think they have lost a lot of money with the liberal return policy and people taking advantage of it...this may be why they have quit offering any warranty (even a 30 day) on the 27-31 group batteries. Wal Mart isn't the same store it was when Sam was alive...what a shame.

i sure hope thats not the case, and the managers are just misinfomred. they will lose a good chunk of sales of batteries, if that's the case.

Well lets see what Bentonville says...if they even reply back. Johnson Controls said it is up to Wal Mart only to warranty the battery since it is their exclusive product.

many years ago I used continental. Best bet with them is to install them yourself so you can get good and changing them out. Never bought one from walmart so cant say much. I have had great luck with interstate but who knows when one will die on me.

But R&R or any dealership cant force you to leave your old batteries and that would be your choice. Its not R&R or any dealership that writes the rules for the battery company. I may be wrong but when you bought 2 new batteries you either provide a core or pay a small fee. But that is the government charge not a dealership charge. Not sure where the profit would be to the dealership.

Sounds like you had great luck with continental batteries lasting. Just get two more and hope these will last as long as the last ones did for you.
