Ramp will be rebuilt, the gate at the top of the hill will be moved to the front of the parking lot so cars won't be backed up in front of those houses back towards 144. Lake opening will be mid summer so the fishing won't be as good and people won't absolutely rape it. $25 per PERSON, not boat. You'll have to call to get on the list each day, no website. The old guy that used to be in charge of the lake and security retired and they actually want to open it back up, there are just a few logistics issues they want to clear up now so things go smoothly. how do you know this?

A little bird told me, then I called another little bird to verify. The only thing conflicting was the opening date and I trust the first source because the new woman in charge of the lake was consulting him about how to handle it.

All rumors but hopefully founded in some facts. Alligator story absolute fact. Alligators(very few) reported on the lake clear back when the lake was open to the public. My boys fished regular at the low water crossing where the county sherriff shot the alligator. No, alligators were never indiginous to this area nore will this shooting put them back on the endangered list but JEERS to sherriff for shooting it. As a county resident who was promised the recreational benefits to allowing a neuclear power plant in their backyard I certainly hope the lake opens again. Next state record? Could be-but doubtful. You have to remember, the lake is not"unfished". Plant executives can fish it from boats. Plant employees fish it from shore and the public has a couple of open free fishing days a year for bank fishing at the park(really a kid fish sort of thing). Lots of friends who work at the plant so will keep asking questions so we can post an update on the RUMOR of Squaw Creek opening. FACT: Wheeler Branch Lake a small lake 250 acre owned by the Somerville County Water Board, will open soon. Lake is now full, looks good. Friend is head of the water commission and still uncertain as to idle speed only vrs horsepower rating for the lake. We have used the lake for diving for our Fire Department training and the lake is deep and clear. Quite a bit of brush left in the upper area. Lots of little fish. Parks are finished, ramps done. This little lake is right next to Squaw Creek. Sometomes the info becomes confussed as to which lake peaple are talking about.

I'm wondering if the Alligator that was shot was the same one that lived in the upper end of the lake.
The lake probably won't have many bigger fish in it. The growing of monsters requires a large food supply with a limited number of predators. Add to that the high temps in the summer that don't help growing and I'm guessing just a large number of fish.
I can't wait until next winter.

Gator was out of the lake down in the creek. Word is it was presenting a danger to a family with an RV in the area.
The ramp is in good shape, just steep like always.
If you don't get your information regarding Squaw Creek Lake straight from Luminant Public Relations, it's all speculation and rumor--and not very good speculation and rumor at that. Encore Energy has nothing to do with the lake or Comanche Peak.
The wife and I caught four 5# plus bass out of the cove by the boat ramp two weeks ago. Saw bigger bass caught by others. There are big fish in the lake.

I respect the privacy of my source. He's a well known guy and a bunch of people will be calling him up with dumb questions. Jay, with all due respect that's a whole lot of speculation.
The "old guy in security" and I had several conversations regarding the lake post 9/11. He wanted to open the lake back up.

I fished it a lot before it closed. We targeted the smallmouth which disappeared after they brought the plant totally online and it got too warm. Nice little lake... but I wouldn't drive 100 miles to fish it.... much less pay anything.
And I know who "Jeff" is.

Is it possible these rumors are just confusion with them opening up wheeler branch lake to the public?, its only a stones throw from SC.
