I just use the cheap ones with the tube attached to a stake that you drive into the ground.

Check out the Carp section. The rod pod is a major part of their equipment.

good grief Albert! is that really the rod handle on a surf rod? heck, it must be ~3' of handle!
are those pipe sections you welded together, or some old Remington 870 barrels for rod holders? they look stout enough.
to Damfisherrmans defense.... a good screw in dog-anchor on the back side of that camera tripod would at least keep the whole contraption in place.
Still $57 is alot of $$ for such a rig. I ran into a guy on Lewisville a couple years ago that would fish at night and used ~3" pipe hangers for rodholders. Fairly handy, and a reasonable budget.

yep that's a short surf rod ... the pipe the rod butt goes in is an old pump barrel out of an oilwell that i cut up ... those are a dime a dozen around here ... the part you drive in the ground is just some rods that were layin' around the shop

Rod Holder: 18 inch PVC + 18 inch of re-bar and 2 hose clamps= the best bank rod holder you can buy.Insert the ground at angle you prefer! Let any fish hit and the rod holder will withstand the velocity. In almost all circumstances this holder will do the trick.Just make sure the rebar is securely lodged/planted in the ground or riprap. I place the rebar along the PVC for about 6 to 8 inches and connect the hose clamps about 4-6 inches apart. Have kept my rod holders in the back of my truck for about 2 years now and have been satisfied. Re-tighten as necessary!
