A friend & I would like to head out to Lake Fairfield for some Reds & Talapia. Thinking Thurs the 8th (after noon) thru Friday the 9th till around noon or so. Can anyone throw out some useful tips/pointers as to how to catch these REDS, best closest spots to put in? What's the best bait, any noticeable patterns for Reds? Anyone catch these Talapia on Rod & Reel before? Anyone want 2 join us? If your gunna be out, let us hear from ya.

PMs are welcomed.

I'll second that - I went for the first time last week to explore. Caught one 18" red on shad, but cast netted a couple of Tilapia to take home.

Water level is very low, only the north ramp is open and that looked pretty hairy for the bigger boats.

I definitely want to go back to try the bass fishing if the lake comes up enough to cover the grass.

Hope you do better

I drove out there Wed. Lake is very low. Campgrounds look like they have had no upkeep. Looks like state does not care about this park! That is a Shame. I did not fish though. I have a camper and was looking for a place to camp and bring my kayak. I am still looking.

Me and a buddy went last weekend also.Pretty much no way to launch from camp sites.Had to go to boat ramp unload and reload after fishing, wasn't crazy about that.As far as the camp sites and restrooms,I thought they were nice.Worst thing, didn't even get a bite.

I would think the best way to fish is to troll dd22s until you find the fish. That's the fishing guide we went with did and it worked pretty well.

Looking to book a campsite for this weekend. Had good luck Labor Day Weekend and I thought the camp sites were good then, but they've gotten rain since then and maybe haven't been able to mow. Anyway, my decision will be based on the water level coming up. Was a pain loading last time.

Link to some yak launching advice I previously posted

Deep water trolling has not produced fish despite marking them, multiple weekends. They are in the 12-18 ft region, but no deeper.

Tried as many as 9 passes at one group last Saturday offering 5 or 6 baits per pass. Got just one tap, but no takes and offered 8 different color baits over those 9 passes.

Think your best bet is baited lines fished up the banks at the above depth zone and shallower. If you have to troll you might try trolling shorelines of sub 19 ft depth.

Multiple days of overcast might cause another kill.

Well done!

Curious Dave, did the fish drum for you? I was once told only the males drum.
