You can peg the tungsten weight with a bobber stopper, it works great.

I would eliminate the posibility of bad line first. A couple of weeks ago I was breaking off on just about every good bite I got. My floro leader was too old, once I changed it, no breaks.
The leader looked and felt fine, but it wasn't.

THe tungsten weights frey the line. I use Lake Fork tungsten and have stoped breaking off. Lake Fork has a very good incert. I also use Tru Tungsten when I'm fishing grass becouse the weight goes threw better. With tru tungsten I only use 65lbs braid.

Go with a brand that puts the inserts in them. I use alot of 1/16 oz. tungsten and they don't come in them. I have had a couple of weights that frayed my line every time I set the hook. Took them off and threw them away. I have bought some from this bulk place and I have been very satisfied with them. Very few break offs on the hook set. www.bulktungsten.com

Hey Big Red. Thanks for the tungsten website. Ordered some.

I do not understand the plastic inserts. I bought some of the BPS weights and had the same problem. I was left with frayed line, break offs, basically the bps weights are junk......Tru tungsten is the way to go.

I was not breaking off but I noticed after just about every fish I had to re-tie whether I was in cover or not. I have been using the same Excalibur tungsten weights for years and not really had a problem until now. I found out the hard way about glass beads several years ago and switched to plastic ones.

Add a rubber BPS bobber stopper to the line above the weight to keep it from moving up and down, thus fraying the line eventually. Also, you might check every one of your rods to make sure that all the ceramics in the eyes are good. I had a tiny crack in one once that kept fraying the line.
