I believe it, Hybrids will pursue bait farther IMO Sandbass give up sooner.

I was taught that stripers bite and spit, as a stun tactic. Could it be that the fast retrieve simples facilates the hook up ?

Flyrodding below the dam at Texoma, the technique proves true for hooking up fish.....fast stripping.
All sizes though.

Slow strip, and you can feel the thunk thunk of the taste, but can not out flinch the spit.

Every thought of that ?

Unless you are wearing a grass skirt and sleeping in a ditch and eating only road kill, you too are part of 'the problem'.

Is a good way to see how the fish are biting that day...if its burning it or vertical jigging it..

It worked for us yesterday on Cooper. Only caught 2 fish though. The rain moved out and it got HOT! We couldn't find the big schools. I need to learn more about Hybrids. Any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated.

I'm sure it works. There are different theories to how the whites, hybrids and stripers relate to each other. In shallower water, I think the whites like to be very near the bottom for protection. If hybrids/stripers are on the bottom looking up and they see small whites, I'm sure they look like food. I saw a huge striper take a 15 to 18 inch striper off the surface right next to our boat once. On the other hand, big hybrids and stripers are known to be very lazy and are willing to let the smaller whites do all the work. The hybrids and stripers will wait on the bottom and get the stunned and wounded shad that fall out of the school. Thats why lures that get down past the whites fast to the bottom are more likely to get hit by hybrids and stripers. Just my thoughts.

It works. When fish are chasing bait, a shads natural reaction is throw their scales and swim straight up to evade. You'll see that when your catching bait throwing a net. Although its a striper, this was caught burning a slab as you described...

I like to throw cankbaits at night for stripers and they are known to spit it before ever setting the hook. If you are using a crankbait that gives good feed back when retreived and you feel like it has stopped wiggling, set the hook. Most of the time you wont feel the striper hit. At the most you will feel a slight tick followed by a feeling that nothing is on your line. Set hard. If you hesitate, it might be too late.

Have you noticed when Barry Jokes catches a big hybrid it comes right up off the bottom and into the boat? Every hybrid that us ameratures hook into pull drag as they head for the deepest water in the area. Once in the boat they continue to kick for a minute or two. Just an observation! I guess Barry is targeting the kinder gentler hybrids.
