Flies-By-Night flies, you can catch two fish at a time, just tie a fly above any slab or mice, and you catch'em for sure, the mice are good for catch doubles on top or suspended. Flies-By-Night.com and finnytribe.com for those mice. +2!!!

Nothing wrong with any of the advice you have been given, if it were me I would buy several 1 ounce jig heads that are for sassy shad and several bullet type jig heads, 3/8 ounce. I would buy a pack of chartreuse 4" sassy shad and a pack of 3" curly tailed grubs in white or chartreuse. If I had any money left over I would buy a 2 ounce Fiesta slab in chartreuse. Anything after that I would buy a Corona w/lime. +1 I couldnt agree more, keep it simple, these items load the boat

Academy has everything you need and while 15$ isnt much, I could catch many hybrids with 15$ worth of lures. Dont waste money on the sassy shad. Brand of slab does matter but seems everyone has some sales pitch. Best way to find out which is best is by trial and error. Everyone has an opinion If you want a good quality slab that catches, the TNT slabs would work well. I do use them sometimes but do have my go to slab. (have tried them all) I have caught on just about every slab out there but over time, you will notice that some work better than others.
Storm wildeyes for subsurface fish. 3.49
Assassin jig heads 2.99
Assassins in pepper flake, white or shad color 2.99
Slab(get 2 @ 2oz, sandies can easily eat a 2oz slab and hybrids will eat them like candy too) 3.00
Maybe a topwater but larger fish will usually be subsurface.
Reasons for the lure selection....
Storm wildeye is subsurface with a slow sink rate that mimics shad. Easy to cast and retrieve. The three or four inch would be best as sandies can easily eat both sizes. The larger will catch you more hybrids.
The slab can be jigged midway down or on the bottom, use graph to decide how many pulls down to put the slab.
The assassin can be used many ways. Can be used directly below the surface with just a worm hook, can be used texas rigged, can be used on jig head to bounce on bottom during retrieve, can be jigged on bottom like slab, can be bounced through any part of the water column. Very versatile lure and is one of the best in the cooler months.
I dont use topwater often as smaller fish will usually be on the surface. On LL, if you want mad sandies, then topwater is great. I stay away from the topwater due to the fact that you will catch tons of sandies on it when they are active. A clear topwater works wonders.. I use almost nothing but slabs, assassins, wild eyes, and the occasional DD22 when fishing for hybrids and sandies.
Good luck and go catch

One more note, as mentioned, everything eats a white curly tail grub.......

What is a mice? Is that something I can purchase locally? Is there anyway someone can post the picture of flies by night in here? Thanks a bunch! go to finny tribe and he will have everything mentioned on here the best part is you can sample everthing and only pay shipping 1 time... If you like send me a PM and you can come by the house or work and I will give you a few mice to try out... but honestly at this time the topwater bite is really hard to beat. and a torpedo will catch all the fish you want
