I have acouple of the Stik Jackets for my spinning rods. They protect pretty well, but you can't stick 'em in and hang on a wall as advertised. Also use the BPS rod sock for my bass rods-these work better IMO.

Academy also has a store brand for $2.99. I use the lure wraps also with the rod covers on my crankbait rods to keep the treble hooks out of the elastic.

I have gone the long mile on the rods covers. BPS and Cabelas have them for under $4. They work good for a while. What happens is the elastic wears out. Also, if you put lures on your rods when you put them in the rod locker they get caught on the elastic. Not fun getting them unhooked. Now McCoy fishing line makes some rod shields that fit like a glove on your rod. I know they are 10 bucks a piece but well worth the money. Trust me I had the cheap rod covers and now I got the rod shields. Best investment I made to protect my rods. Here is a link: www.mccoyfishingline.com/products_accessories_rodshields.html I agree on with you on the hooks getting caught in the elastic material. It can be very frustrating (and time consuming) getting there out. I do like the fact that the rod eyes and line do not tangle with other rods while being transported but it's hard to get past the hooks getting snagged. I think I might cut the elastic piece off and put a velco strap around the bottom of the rod shield to see how that works. Haven't tried the nylon ones yet.

If I am transporting my rods in my truck I use them, have the Stix Jackets and use also lure wraps. The lure wraps keep the lures from tangling and the jackets keep the lines from tangling up with other rods. Jackets also help protect your guides from getting bent. I hate to get there and everything is tangled up. Got mine a few years ago at a fishing show and they were on sale. Those black ones that were posted about would be the best price probably and they are about the same.

I've looked at nearly all the rod sleeve products on the market. Didn't like any of them for the prices. Went to fabric store bought heavy duty rip-stop nylon (comes in about 8 colors - good for color coding)and some elastic strap. I cut the fabric, the wife then sewed. We completed 14 sleeves in about 2 hours. The total cost for all sleeves was about $12.00 and I have pre-cut extra fabric for about 8 more sleeves. MAKE YOUR OWN, its really easy to do.
