The website mentioned is worthless for jerking the hook out. It would be difficult to explain the proper procedure here but have done it many many times without a hitch or complaint. I got one treble hook in three fingers last summer and taught my friend Everett Miller the proper method. He performed well and I experienced minimal pain. ps did have a large drink of whiskey as I taught him the skill of hook jerking. Larry Scruggs

I keep hoping one of my fishing partners will get a hook stuck in them so i can try the string thing. Has anyone ever tried just jerking it out with pliars. Only if you want a lot of tissue damage and possible even nerve damage!!! I use pliers holding the hook exactly as they describe with the thread trick. Clip off the hook that's in you and count to three and pull on two. Not sure if I have tissue or nerve damage but I get back to fishing quicker.

I used to guide for a Dr. back in the day. He showed me how to get a hook out with a Hypodermic needle. He would slide the hollow end of the needle over the barb and then pull the hook out with the needle over the barb, I watched him do it.
Thanks, Billy

I have done the line trick a couple of times now, and I can absolutely say there isn't anything better for getting the hook out of soft tissue.
It doesn't hurt anymore than the hook being buried in the first place, and will not pull a chunk of meat out if done correctly.
So if you do it, and there appears to be a hunk of stew meat left on the hook, you probably should work on that technique.

The key is to yank when the person isnt ready. I was fishing with Dannie Golden last year when a ray Bob bass jumped and spit my crank right into my buddies leg. You have to take or cut the hook from the bait unless you want to imbed the other hooks too when you yank it out. Just tell them you are counting to 5 and yank on 2. They will never see it coming, and will prob be greatful you did it that way.

If it hasn't been mentioned use braid if possible, it will not stretch.

I had a dr use the hypodermic needle trick on me and I have also seen the line and yank trick. Both seem to work very well, the hypodermic not causing as much fear in the one with the hook in them.

I once got a treble hook sunk DEEP into the pad of my middle finger. The hook was in my finger and I had a mad 5 pounder hooked on the other end of the zara puppy. ALSO, I was tube fishing which added alot of other challenges. Anyway, I tried to push the hook through, which made things worse. It took 3 yanks of the string to get it out but it worked. I could not believe how quickly it healed and there was not any damage to my finger.
You have to make sure to pull the hook out at near the angle it went in. I had to place my index finger from my other hand on the eye of the hook to make sure the angle was right. Then tie fishing line to the curve of the stuck hook and yank. What a relief it is when the hook pops out!

I had to work a gammy treble hook out of my leg last year when a fish threw my Spook Jr by the boat and sank it solid in my leg. It was at an angle where I couldn't use the string method. After a good 20 or 30 minutes I worked it out with a pair of needle nose. Sure felt good when it was out of there. LOL

The last few times this has happened to me Ive found that if you just let the fish flop a few more times it will rip right out. (On a side note I dont recomend this because it HURTS like hell)

The string trick works great. 2 fingers 2 hooks no problem.
