we filled a big ol icechest full and put the fillet knife to them, they made a few big ol bags full! fried up nicely, and its just same ol fish! i have more reds and specs in my freezer than i know what to do with, so when i go to the surf, these are what i catch and feed to the "oh, its just fish" people in my family. the kids love catching them, its fast action, and they fight well on light tackle. if you can get into a mess of sand trout, now thats where its at. good luck, keep the larger whiting, 13-15 inches will be your best meat yielding fish

I hear about a lot of folks eating them but I never have. I usually find them to be an annoyance. Therefore, it is my duty to use as many of them as bait for larger species. The larger species seem to like them just fine.
