Here's what I noticed throughout this thread
So often each reply would say that "Brand XXX is absolutely THE BEST because of blah blah blah (pancake)". Then I look down at each person's sponsors and low and behold ... they're sponsored by Brand XXX. Suddenly (even though that rod may have been struck in Heaven itself) their opinion means squat ... its like they are paid to say that. Kinda disappointing. Or maybe I'm just a jaded old fart!

I have heard good things about soldier rods.. I haven't used one myself, but the technology seems interesting. I don't know much about how rods are put together and everything, but the Spiral Wrap stuff seems nifty.
With that being said, my Falcon Cara Amistad is my favorite rod I've tried. Can't wait to get my hands on an Expert.

IMNSHO St. Croix SC-IV blancks are the most advanced fishing rod blanks in the world today.
The top rod would be a custom built rod made from a St. Croix SC-IV blank using Fuji Concept guides with SiC rings and all titanium frames paired with a Fuji ACS, or VSS reel seat and the highest grade of Portugese cork. All assembled by a master rod builder.

Who makes the finest top end rods? I rank them in this order, Loomis, St. Croix, Kistler, Carrot Stix, Falcon cheap doesnt break when catching fish. i have tried rods of all sorts. and i am starting to believe that the rod really doesnt matter as much as i used to think long as it doesnt break. tieing the hook proper, drag set, and the reel and line itself make more difference than the rod does. i have a pricey loomis rod and cheap 7$ chinese made rods and i really cant tell the difference. they all catch fish just fine. i keep a couple of spares in case i step on one or close the tip in a door or soething stupid. easier to do that with cheaper rods than really pricey ones.

If you want to throw smaller baits in super clear skinny water a 6'3" Castaway Skeleton Recoil is my favorite by far. Super light! I have caught a fair amount of oversized reds on this rod in shin deep water fishing the Lower Laguna. Never had any trouble turning them. I have a G Loomis 6'6" Crankbait medium light. Great rod, but not my favorite.

Here is my 2 cents. Price does not make a high end rod. These companies are trying desperately to make extremely light rods with more sensitivity. In the end they loose the strength because they have not found a way to make the rods stronger without loosing those two features. I am still searching for that perfect rod and when I find it I will let everyone know.
