Seriously now . I'm really interested in Tiny's method of cutting the gills to bleed the fish out that Fish Ninja mentioned. It seems like it would have to help the taste of the filets to bleed the fish first. Does anyone know the method Tiny uses?

It looked to me like he just stick his fillet knife up in the gills and cut front to back, with a slight J motion.

bens i do this with gafftop at the coast , and with cats at the lake, get a big burlap bag , put the cats into the bag cutting off there tails, then tie the top of the bag off lower into the water while you fish, they bleed out good, the burlap also takes the slime of the fish, makes for a nice white fillet with good tatse and not a lot of slime to contend with while filleting or cleaning

This subject comes up every so often and it always cracks me up. The last time it came up some guy was asking how to humanely kill them because his daughter watched him clean fish while they were still alive. So now instead of pumpkin seeing daddy clean them alive she gets to see daddy cut their gills stick wires in their brain electrocute them drill their noggins and finally beat them with a club! In my opinion ice seems to be the best way and it actually makes filetting catfish a little easier.

The only fish that I find in the Texas Fishing Guide that it's OK to remove either the heads or tails are sharks and kingfish.

To be honest I've never really thought about it! Not even when my kids tell me ooh look dad it's still breathing and you just took all meat off him! I think they'll still taste the same though!
