Now the report: Fishing was pretty much a ZERO! My buddy Jose De La Cerda managed one 4 lb drum!
Then the things took a turn to the dark side! The poachers/cast netters showed up. Showing total disregard for the two fishermen there ahead of them, (us)they proceeded to get in the water, start casting the nets, and GOT RIGHT IN FRONT OF US, AND HAD THE NERVE TO TELL US(via one of their bank bound flunkies)THAT WE BETTER WATCH WHERE WE CAST OUR LURES, OR BETTER YET, MAYBE WE MIGHT WANT TO MOVE TO FISH SOMEWHERE ELSE ON THE RIVER, LEST WE BURY A HOOK IN ONE THEM'S LEGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I let them know in no uncertain terms, that #1 what they were doing is 100% illegal, #2 we were there at least an hour before they even showed up, #3 If i had wanted to bury a hook in human flesh i easily could have picked the body part, and proceeded to bury it pretty much at my whim!
I got license plates and car makes, and will forward that info to the game wardens AND Operation Game Thief!
Talk about ruining a good day!!!!!
Took pics of the idiots tossing the nets around, but since they were cell phone pics, they came out too dark to see so i held up posting them.
The fishing will get better as the flow increases, provided the promised rains materialize! No worries!

Thats when you tie on an eight ounce bank sinker with a 5/0 hook tied above it and zing that sucker past their face. Tell em they better watch out, they might snag their face in your hook.

where is this spillway located? Looks like it is located near some power lines, on the Elm Fork.

I am sure it has some flow, but not what we are looking for, maybe next week when the big rains come!

Looks like the rain bumped the NW Hwy gauge up about a foot.

When the sandbass & hybrids run in Texas, I would think they run up from whatever lake they are in, go upriver and hit a dam (there is only one natural lake in Texas - Caddo Lake). So, if I fish the spillway behind Ray Roberts or Lake Lewisville during the sandbass spawn, can I expect to find a lot of sandbass and hybrids behind the dam?

Rudy - I completely agree with you about those boneheads being so disrespectful. I often fish alone and sometimes have to bite my tongue because I'm outnumbered. I hate to see people abuse our natural resources....the same folks who don't give a rip about throwing thier trash on the ground and spoiling what should be a naturally beautiful fishing spot.

It can look like this! The spillway is at the top of the pic where that pile of big white rocks is, and as you can see, it IS NOT VISIBLE, that area immediately in front of the pic, is a stilling basin about 100 yds from the spillway itself and is an offshoot branch/canal dug years ago for overflow and runoff. Back when the spillway had a less restricted flow, the water in this area used to be extremely clear, and the sandies and crappie would come up in here to get out of the muddy churning river water. not like that anymore, but i bet there are some fish in there right now. problem is water doesn't stay in that basin anymore. when the river falls the water flows out and dries up. This pic was taken Tuesday, 11/11/08 somewhere in the vicinity of 5 PM, by Jose De La Cerda, an EF disciple! Rudy
