Us Guys over 40 really had it good when we were kids, the stuff we got away with daily just amazes me now.. Other then the gambling casino we had in the hot summer days everything we did was outside. Walked or rode bikes everywhere, stayed out way after dark, played in the creek even when it was flooded, built forts and bike trails, hunted the neighborhood with BB guns and bows, played every sport in the front yard or in the driveway, made flame throwers and tennis ball cannons, had massive water balloon fights, gathered coke bottles for candy and slushies at the corner store, rummaged through the junk yards for all kinds of treasure, collected frogs, toads, turtles and snakes, trapped coons and possums for our zoo and released them afterward to roam the neighborhood. This was the time of real freedom, not that these times are all bad but growing up when I did was great and for that I'm very thankful and blessed..

This was the time of real freedom, not that these times are all bad but growing up when I did was great and for that I'm very thankful and blessed.. Man those were the days... Real freedom... I had a really tricked out pellet gun a Sheridan 5mm with a Weaver 4x scope. I later got a single break RWS. I also remember snaking quart coke bottles to get money to buy pellets. And a fight was just a fight and a handshake took care of it afterwards. The days when you could take your hunting rifle to school so you could hunt afterwards and even show it to the coach, principal, and security guard in the parking lot. Actually the principal borrowed mine a few times. I miss living in a semi-rural community. The rifle team at school fired real weapons and not air rifles. Now that you mention it I rather deal with the toxins I was exposed to then, than to have a safe sheltered environment and become sessile like my kids now a days.

Hookline&sinker, right-on. Remember the best place on a long trip was to get the backseat dashboard, it was the best bed.

Hookline&sinker, right-on. Remember the best place on a long trip was to get the backseat dashboard, it was the best bed. OOOOHHHH I had forgotten that one... Or sleeping on the back seat floor never mind the drive shaft hump. My parents had a Delta 88 at one time and that baby had some room and a full size back window.

AllenG,
I know how you feel. Growing up...if you couldn't clean it off your body with soap and hot water, it was time for Coleman fuel or gasoline...Lots of camping time at the coast as a kid right after the blowout in the Gulf....I thought tar on the body was natural and a part of swimming in the gulf...as well as the Coleman fuel wipedown afterwards...
